Netflix released a preview of the first five minutes of Stranger Things 5 on November 7, 2025. It is an advance excerpt from the season premiere, not an early release of the full episode or season. Netflix said the clip debuted during a virtual watch party; the full season arrived later in three releases.
Where to watch the first five minutes
The official preview is featured in Netflix Tudum’s “Stranger Things 5: Watch the Chilling First 5 Minutes of Episode 1”, published November 7, 2025. Netflix reported that the segment had debuted during a Stranger Things 5 virtual watch party. It is from “The Crawl,” the first episode of the fifth and final season.
The date has passed: November 7 was the preview’s release date, not a future viewing event. The clip is a short digital preview; watching it does not require buying a physical product.
What the preview shows
Opening-sequence spoilers: Netflix Tudum describes a flashback to 1983. Will is alone and frightened in the Upside Down, hiding in a makeshift fort. A Demogorgon pursues him through the forest and takes him to Vecna’s lair. Vecna tells him, “At long last, we can begin,” and, “You and I, we’re going to do such beautiful things together.”
#1 Best Overall
This opening is not the season’s main setting. Netflix’s synopsis places the broader story in fall 1987, after Hawkins has been scarred by the Rifts. The group searches for Vecna while the town is under military quarantine and Eleven is in hiding.
Series co-creator Ross Duffer described the season’s pace in a statement to Netflix Tudum, reproduced in the preview article: “But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.” The comment contrasts the opening with the customary approach of establishing ordinary life before introducing the supernatural.

How the season’s timeline fits together
The 1983 scene is a flashback within the premiere. Netflix’s season synopsis sets the main story in fall 1987, with Hawkins changed by the Rifts and the characters pursuing Vecna. Keeping those two dates distinct explains why the opening returns to Will’s earlier experience rather than beginning in the season’s later timeline.

In its December 2, 2025 franchise announcement, Netflix reported that Stranger Things season four had reached 140.7 million views globally. Netflix did not define the view-count methodology in the cited passage, so this is a company-reported figure, not an independently audited measure. The announcement also covered franchise books, merchandise, and brand collaborations; those are optional fan extras and are not needed to watch the preview or episodes.
