Rachel Brosnahan is the reported lead of Presumed Innocent season 2, playing attorney Leila Reynolds in a new case. Apple confirmed Jake Gyllenhaal will return as an executive producer, but has not confirmed him as a season-two actor. A production database later listed him in the cast, so his on-screen status remains unresolved. No premiere date is established by the sources cited here.
Who is leading Presumed Innocent season 2?
Entertainment reporting identifies Rachel Brosnahan as season two’s lead, playing Leila Reynolds. That is a change from season one, which starred Gyllenhaal as Chicago prosecutor Rusty Sabich. The reporting describes a new protagonist and case; it does not establish that Gyllenhaal has been definitively removed from every on-screen appearance.
Apple’s July 12, 2024 renewal announcement said the series would return with a “brand-new case.” It named Gyllenhaal among the returning executive producers, while describing him as season one’s star—not announcing him as a season-two actor. Apple’s renewal announcement is the clearest official statement about his confirmed role in the new season. TV Insider’s season-two coverage identifies Brosnahan as the new lead.
Is Jake Gyllenhaal returning on screen?
That question has no definitive answer in the available sources. Apple confirmed Gyllenhaal as an executive producer, a behind-the-scenes role that does not by itself mean he will appear as an actor. Later coverage described season two as a new story with an all-new cast, and TechRadar reported in December 2025 that he would not star. But Production List’s October 3, 2026 entry includes Gyllenhaal in its cast field, without explaining the listing or specifying a role.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The careful conclusion is that Brosnahan is the reported new lead and Gyllenhaal’s executive-producer involvement is confirmed; whether he also appears on screen remains unclear. A database cast field is not enough to resolve the discrepancy. Production List’s season-two entry identifies its status as post-production but does not explain Gyllenhaal’s cast listing.
What is season two about?
Season two is set to revolve around a new case, rather than continue the first season’s Rusty Sabich story as its central plot. Reporting says it draws on Jo Murray’s legal thriller Dissection of a Murder. In the novel’s premise, Leila Reynolds takes on her first murder case: defending Jack Millman, who is accused of killing a well-known judge. Apple’s renewal announcement confirms the new-case format, while the connection to Murray’s book comes from entertainment reporting, not Apple’s announcement.

Who else is in the reported cast?
Coverage has named several additional season-two cast members. These are reported casting details; Apple’s 2024 renewal announcement did not announce this roster.

When will Presumed Innocent season 2 premiere?
No season-two premiere date is established by the cited sources. Production List described the season as in post-production on October 3, 2026, and reported that principal photography had finished; it did not give a release date. How does season two relate to the first season?
Apple describes season one as an eight-episode limited series starring Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich, based on Scott Turow’s novel of the same name. It premiered June 12, 2024. Season two’s announced new-case format makes the change of lead easier to understand: the series is continuing with another legal story rather than simply repeating the first season’s central case. Apple’s series page provides the official season-one description.
