Sheriff Dan uncovers her role and arrests her in the Season 1 finale. The other major reveal is that Yancy Grey is Cap Fuller’s long-lost grandson and ranch heir. He keeps the ranch and proposes to Ellie—but Sidney turns up claiming to be Yancy’s wife, setting up the central complication for Season 2.
Who killed Staten’s son, Randall?
Randall Kirkland dies when his car crashes. The finale initially points suspicion toward Kit, who had been arrested by Sheriff Dan. Kit was having an affair with Dan’s wife, Margaret, and that connection makes him an obvious suspect. But the official Netflix recap distinguishes Kit’s affair and initial arrest from the fatal act: Margaret was driving when the car went off the road. Dan discovers her involvement and arrests her; Kit returns home.
So the answer is not that Kit killed Randall. Margaret was behind the wheel, and the finale closes that mystery with Dan acting on what he has uncovered.
What is Yancy’s twist at the end of Season 1?
Yancy is Cap Fuller’s grandson and heir
Yancy arrives in town as a drifter working for Cap Fuller. The finale reveals that he is Cap’s long-lost grandson. After Cap dies on his land, Yancy inherits the ranch and must decide whether to keep it or accept a proposed $22 million sale to Austin Water & Power.

He chooses the ranch—and Ellie
Yancy decides to keep the Fuller ranch and asks Ellie to marry him. Creator April Blair described the change in him to Netflix Tudum this way: “He becomes the protector of that place, and of Cap’s legacy moving forward, and becomes someone who puts someone else before him.” The decision ties Yancy’s new family connection to a choice about what kind of person he wants to be.
Sidney arrives with a claim of her own
Just as Yancy and Ellie appear to have a future together, Sidney arrives at Gracie’s and tells Ellie that she is Yancy’s wife. Season 1 ends on the claim; it does not yet explain the history or legal status of their marriage.

How Season 2 explains Sidney’s marriage
Season 2 confirms that Sidney and Yancy’s marriage began as part of a con from Yancy’s past, but is legally valid. In Netflix Tudum’s Season 2 ending explainer, Sidney uses that legal status to demand half of Fuller Ranch in exchange for a divorce. The reveal therefore threatens both Yancy’s relationship with Ellie and the inheritance he has just chosen to keep.
The later story takes the conflict beyond the initial claim. Netflix’s account says Yancy and Sidney eventually join forces on another scheme; later, Yancy, Staten, Sam, and Kai work together to double-cross her. Sidney attacks Ellie, who decides she needs distance from Yancy to protect herself and their child. Ellie gives birth to a daughter, Isabella. The marriage twist becomes a test of whether Yancy can leave his con-artist past behind—and whether Ellie can trust the risks that come with it.

Where Season 2 stands
Netflix Tudum’s July 27, 2026 season guide says Season 2 is streaming and has eight episodes. That guide does not confirm a Season 3 renewal; it says viewers should wait to learn whether there will be another chapter. The show is inspired by Jodi Thomas’s book series, though that does not mean the novels reproduce the series’ plot.
