Who is Michael Che on Weekend Update?
Che joined Colin Jost at the Weekend Update desk in September 2014, according to an NBC press release from 2016. CBS News described Che and Jost in a 2022 interview as a long-serving SNL fake-news team. The same interview discussed Che’s background on New York’s Lower East Side and his view of stand-up as his first love.
In that 2022 interview, Che described comedy as “a magic trick,” explaining that it can make people laugh at something familiar—or something they might otherwise overlook. That comment offers context for his work, but it was not a statement about the 2025 Instagram post.
