Napoleon began streaming globally on Apple TV+ on March 1, 2024. It was not announced as free for everyone: Apple’s release announcement described a separate, limited-time offer for customers who bought and activated a new qualifying Apple device. That 2024 promotion is historical, not a current offer.
What “free” meant for Napoleon on Apple TV+
In its February 15, 2024 announcement, Apple Original Films said Napoleon would be available to stream globally on Apple TV+ beginning Friday, March 1, 2024. The announcement also mentioned a limited-time three-month Apple TV offer for customers who purchased and activated a new qualifying Apple device, including Apple TV 4K, iPhone, iPad, or Mac. That device-linked offer did not mean the film was universally free, and it should not be treated as available now. Apple Original Films’ announcement does not establish present-day trial terms or pricing.

For current access, check the Apple TV app or Apple TV+ terms in your region. The official Apple TV service storefront presents availability by territory; a dedicated Apple TV 4K box is not required just because it was named in the historical promotion.
How the release dates differed
The Apple TV+ streaming date followed an earlier digital release. Apple said premium video-on-demand and digital purchase would begin January 9, 2024, in more than 100 countries. That announcement records the launch window at the time; it does not establish current retailer availability or prices. Apple’s January 8, 2024 release notice covers that earlier option.

What to know about the film
Directed by Ridley Scott and starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon, the historical action epic follows Napoleon’s rise and his volatile relationship with Josephine. Apple’s official film page identifies it as an R-rated drama and lists March 1, 2024 as its release date.
A regional Apple TV listing gives the runtime as 2 hours 37 minutes; runtimes and audio or subtitle details can be listing-specific, so check the version shown in your local storefront. The UK listing includes those viewing details.

Awards noted at the time of release
Apple’s February 15, 2024 announcement reported three Academy Award nominations—for visual effects, production design, and costume design—and four BAFTA nominations. These are nomination counts reported in that 2024 announcement, not a statement of current awards status.
