Spoilers for MobLand Season 1, Episode 8, “Helter Skelter.” Richie kills detectives Fisk and Mukasa when they refuse to be controlled. The deeper twist, as reported by ComingSoon’s episode explainer, is that former Deputy Chief Inspector Colin Tattersall arranged their meeting and had been working for Richie for years. What looks like a police-backed move against the Harrigans is therefore also a way for Richie to exert influence over the investigation.

What happens at the end of “Helter Skelter”?

Paramount+ lists the episode as “Helter Skelter” and gives its broad setup in one sentence: “Maeve extends an olive branch. Richie considers a merger.” That synopsis frames an apparent opening for cooperation between the rival sides, but it does not describe the ending. The detailed account below comes from ComingSoon’s May 18, 2025 episode explainer.

  1. Former Deputy Chief Inspector Colin Tattersall advises detectives Fisk and Mukasa to work with Richie against Conrad Harrigan and his family.
  2. Richie appears to weigh the proposal, then asks who will control whom in the arrangement.
  3. Fisk and Mukasa make clear that Richie will not own or control them. Richie shoots them.
  4. ComingSoon reports that Tattersall orchestrated the meeting, had worked for Richie for years, and declares Richie the owner in their agreement.

The official episode listing confirms the title and surface setup; the murder and Tattersall details are reported by ComingSoon, not stated in Paramount+’s synopsis.

Why does Richie kill the detectives?

The immediate reason is their refusal to accept his control. Richie’s question about who owns whom turns the proposed alliance into a test of authority: the detectives will not submit, and he responds with lethal force. That reading follows the reported exchange and outcome; no creator statement explaining his intent is available in the cited sources.

Who is Colin Tattersall working for?

According to ComingSoon’s account, Tattersall is working for Richie and has been for years. He arranged the meeting while presenting the detectives with a route to target Conrad Harrigan and his family. His role makes the proposed anti-Harrigan effort look less like an independent police initiative and more like an operation Richie can influence from within.

What does the twist mean for the Harrigans?

The ending widens the conflict beyond the families’ direct contest for power. If Tattersall can direct an investigation aimed at the Harrigans while serving Richie, Richie has leverage over both the criminal rivalry and the institutional response to it. Paramount+ describes the series as a war between the Harrigans and Stevensons, with fixer Harry Da Souza caught between them; Tattersall’s reported allegiance adds police influence to that struggle.

That is an interpretation of the reported scene, not confirmed creator intent. The established plot details are the detectives’ refusal, Richie’s killings, and Tattersall’s reported role in arranging the meeting for Richie.

How the episode’s setup contrasts with its ending

“Maeve extends an olive branch. Richie considers a merger,” Paramount+ says. The brief official synopsis suggests negotiation; the reported final scene instead shows how fragile any proposed partnership is when Richie treats control as the deciding condition. The result is not simply a failed deal: Tattersall’s hidden allegiance suggests the apparent effort against the Harrigans may serve Richie’s interests.
