Jessica Knight accepted a job in California in the Season 21 finale, leaving her place on Alden Parker’s team uncertain. The Season 22 premiere showed Knight working at Camp Pendleton before she declined another promotion and returned to her old job in Washington, D.C. Law later confirmed, “I knew I was never leaving.”
Why the Season 21 finale raised questions about Katrina Law
In the finale, Knight’s REACT team had been killed in the line of duty. An offer to lead training for REACT at Camp Pendleton gave her a chance to pursue a career move she had been considering. After she and Parker survived a dangerous situation aboard a ship, Knight told Director Leon Vance she would take the position. That meant leaving the D.C. team and put pressure on her relationship with Jimmy Palmer. TVLine’s May 6, 2024 interview captured the uncertainty at the time.

Asked whether she would appear in Season 22, Law replied, “Hmmm…. Better tune in for that season opener!” Co-showrunner Steven D. Binder also kept the outcome open, saying, “Well, we set something up there…” Those comments preserved suspense around the story; they were not confirmation that Law was leaving the series.
How Season 22 resolved Knight’s job change
The Season 22 premiere, “Empty Nest,” shows Knight working at Camp Pendleton several months after the finale. When Nick Torres goes missing during an undercover operation, she helps Parker and her former teammates. After the case, Knight receives another promotion opportunity but turns it down and chooses to return to her former D.C. job. TheWrap’s October 14, 2024 interview with Law includes her direct explanation: “I knew I was never leaving.” She said Knight loves field-agent work and its adrenaline, helping explain why the California role did not become a permanent move.

What Knight’s return means for Jimmy
Knight’s decision about where to work is separate from the status of her relationship with Jimmy. The Season 21 finale left them separated after Jimmy’s fear of losing her contributed to their breakup. Law described Knight as ambitious and said she needed to choose a career path that felt right for herself. Season 22 continued to address the aftermath of the breakup; returning to Parker’s team did not, by itself, settle their romance. TV Insider’s finale coverage discusses the relationship’s unresolved state.
