The episode aired on CBS in the United States on October 24, 2024; this is the first season’s second episode, not season 2, episode 2.
What is season 1, episode 2 called?
The episode is “Some New York Nonsense.” CBS’s series guide also lists a different season 2, episode 2, “Fan Mail and Old-Timey Organ Music,” so the season number matters when identifying the episode.
CBS’s episode guide describes the series as following Georgie and Mandy as they raise a young family in Texas while navigating adulthood, parenting and marriage.
What happens in “Some New York Nonsense”?
The episode’s main events are closely connected rather than eight separate twists: Georgie tries to shoulder adult responsibilities, his anxiety surfaces, and concern for Missy draws him back to the family loss they are both carrying.
#1 Best Overall
1. Georgie visits his father’s grave
The story opens with Georgie at George Sr.’s grave, assuring his father that he is managing without him. The reassurance sets up the gap between Georgie’s effort to appear capable and the pressure building in his life.
2. Responsibility piles up
Georgie is trying to be a husband, father, brother, son-in-law and worker. The official synopsis frames his dilemma as balancing work and family while worrying about Missy, who is “going off the rails.”
Rank #2
- Montana Jordan, Emily Osment
3. An argument with Mandy precedes the hospital visit
After an argument with Mandy, Georgie drives himself to the emergency room because he fears he is having a heart attack. The episode frames the scare as anxiety or panic, not a heart attack.
4. Georgie calls the explanation “some New York nonsense”
Georgie dismisses the explanation for what happened as “some New York nonsense,” giving the episode its title. The joke does not erase the seriousness of the moment: his accumulated pressure has become difficult to ignore.

Mandy tells Georgie they may need to move if she is to pursue a reporter job. It is a possibility they have to consider, not a settled career outcome or completed move.
6. Missy’s suspension shows she is struggling
Missy has been suspended from school and is acting out. Her behavior places Georgie in the position of trying to help his younger sister while already feeling stretched by his own responsibilities.
7. Georgie takes Missy to their father’s grave
Georgie brings Missy to George Sr.’s grave and gives her space. Her grief is bound up not only with her father’s death but also with Sheldon having moved away.
8. Missy breaks down in their father’s car
The episode closes with Missy crying in the passenger seat of her late father’s car. The quiet ending makes her distress legible without resolving it through a sudden fix.

- The Complete First Season
Why does Georgie go to the hospital?
He believes he may be having a heart attack after an argument with Mandy, but the episode identifies the scare as anxiety or panic. That is the story’s framing of Georgie’s experience, not a diagnosis of a real person or guidance about how to treat anxiety.
How does the episode connect Georgie and Missy’s grief?
They respond to George Sr.’s death differently. Georgie repeatedly talks to his father at the gravesite as he tries to carry adult responsibilities; Missy’s visit exposes how much she misses her father and how isolated she feels after Sheldon’s departure. The shared loss links their storylines, but the episode gives Missy room to express it on her own terms.
In interviews with TVLine and TV Insider, executive producer and co-creator Steve Holland described the graveside conversations as a way for Georgie to unload what he is carrying. Holland also said the writers believed the characters had earned emotional depth within the multi-camera sitcom format: “This can have some depth and weight to it. We’ve earned it with these characters.” His comments explain the creative choice; they are not advice about anxiety treatment.
