Julie Chen Moonves offered an empathetic interpretation of Angela Murray’s behavior toward Lisa Weintraub on Big Brother 26: after seeing Angela describe feeling like a loner in elementary school, Chen Moonves thought, “hurt people, hurt people.” She immediately added, “It doesn’t make it right.” Her comment was a personal observation—not a diagnosis or proof that Angela’s childhood caused her conduct.
What Julie Chen Moonves said about Angela and Lisa
In an Entertainment Weekly interview republished by Yahoo Entertainment on August 2, 2024, Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves was asked for her take on Angela Murray’s behavior toward Lisa Weintraub. Chen Moonves said she had seen Angela become emotional in the Diary Room while talking about feeling like a loner on the outside during her elementary school days. She said that brought the phrase “hurt people, hurt people” to mind.

Chen Moonves qualified the thought in the same interview: “It doesn’t make it right.” She added that words can hurt more deeply than people realize, framing the comment as a call for compassion rather than an excuse for Angela’s actions. Read the interview as republished by Yahoo Entertainment.
What is—and isn’t—established about a “traumatic reason”
The interview supports a narrower claim than the phrase “traumatic reason” suggests. Chen Moonves described Angela’s recollection of feeling like an outsider and shared her own interpretation of it. The interview does not establish a trauma diagnosis, nor does it prove that a childhood experience caused Angela to treat Lisa as she did.

That distinction matters: a host’s empathetic reading of a Diary Room moment is not independent evidence of someone’s motive or psychological history. Chen Moonves’s words should be understood as her personal impression, not a clinical explanation.
Why Lisa Weintraub was evicted
Lisa was evicted on August 1, 2024, during the second week of Big Brother 26, while Angela remained in the house. Contemporary coverage reported an 11–1 vote. In the Yahoo-republished interview, Chen Moonves said the house viewed Lisa as the tougher competitor to beat, so the players chose to evict her instead of Angela.
Lisa offered a similar strategic explanation in her exit interview with TV Insider: she believed she was seen as a bigger game threat, and that players wanted a strong competitor out. These are attributed accounts of the decision; they do not establish the private reasoning of every houseguest. Read Lisa’s TV Insider exit interview.

No. Coverage noted speculation that Angela was fake, a plant, or connected to AI, but the interviews and recaps cited here do not substantiate those claims. They should be treated as fan speculation or allegations, not as established facts about Angela or the show’s production.

How to read the story
- What viewers saw: Angela’s conduct toward Lisa was discussed in the interview, but Chen Moonves’s comments do not independently document every incident.
- What Chen Moonves inferred: Angela’s account of feeling like a loner prompted the host’s “hurt people, hurt people” reflection, which she explicitly said did not make the behavior right.
- Why Lisa left: Chen Moonves said the house considered Lisa the more difficult competitor to beat; Lisa herself said she believed she was seen as a threat.
- What remains unverified: Neither a causal trauma explanation nor the producer-plant allegation is established by the cited accounts.
