Spoilers for Thunderbolts*. Taskmaster (Antonia Dreykov) is the film’s major named death: Ghost kills her early in the story. Yelena, Bucky, Ghost, John Walker, Red Guardian, and Bob survive. Bob is not cured of his powers or the Void; the team reaches him when he is isolated, and the Void recedes.
How does Thunderbolts* end?
Bob Reynolds loses control and becomes the Void, a force that traps people in their worst memories and threatens New York. Rather than defeat him in a conventional fight, Yelena reaches Bob in the mental landscape and stays with him. The others follow, helping him face his shame and fear instead of leaving him alone with them.

The Void recedes and the city is saved, but Bob remains powerful and uncertain about controlling that power. The crisis is resolved through connection, not a cure: the film does not show Bob losing his abilities or the Void being permanently removed.
Who dies, and who survives?
Taskmaster dies
Antonia Dreykov, also known as Taskmaster and played by Olga Kurylenko, is killed by Ghost early in the film during Valentina’s staged mission, which sets the operatives against one another.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is also alive at the end. The death answer here concerns the principal named characters and central story; it does not establish the fate of every unnamed person affected by the Void.
Why does Valentina call them the New Avengers?
After the crisis, Valentina uses the group’s survival to repair her public standing and presents them as the New Avengers. The reveal gives the film’s title a clear payoff: the asterisk points toward the team’s new name. That is a reading of the on-screen reveal, not a separately confirmed official explanation of the punctuation.

What happens in the credits scenes?
Mid-credits: Red Guardian’s cereal promotion
Red Guardian promotes a cereal box bearing the New Avengers name. The joke fits his wish for public recognition, while leaving open whether the public will accept the team.
Post-credits: a 14-month jump and a Fantastic Four ship
Fourteen months later, the team is dealing with Sam Wilson over the use of the Avengers name. A ship marked with the Fantastic Four emblem approaches Earth. The scene sets up a crossover, but does not explain the ship’s full origin or settle what the Fantastic Four’s arrival means for the next film.

What is the ending saying about heroism?
Director Jake Schreier described the film as focused less on heroes and villains than on characters and how they get out of a difficult place together. As he put it, “in this world it’s really about saving yourself and saving each other. Yes, they’re saving the world.” That perspective fits the climax: the team’s decisive act is staying with Bob, not overpowering him.
