The Simpsons’ commercial success is best understood as a durable business model, not a single grand-total figure. The series has extended its reach through long-running television distribution, licensed merchandise, home video and streaming. But the official announcements and company reports cited here do not disclose how much revenue or profit the franchise currently earns.
How the franchise’s business model changed over time
The Simpsons began as Fox programming and has remained on Fox’s broadcast schedule while expanding into other forms of distribution and consumer products. Each channel creates a different commercial opportunity: broadcast can support advertising and distribution arrangements; licensing lets third parties sell products using characters; home video packages episodes for purchase; and streaming places the series in a subscription platform’s catalog.

These channels should not be added together as though they were the same financial measure. Retail spending on a licensed product is not the same as the licensing fee paid to a rights holder, and neither figure is the same as a company’s profit after costs. The sources available establish that these channels have existed, but they do not provide a matched, current revenue breakdown for the franchise.
Merchandise and licensing
Licensed merchandise and character use are documented parts of the franchise’s commercial history. A historical overview records these categories, but its legacy monetary claims do not establish a current audited annual total or the amount received by the rights holders. The distinction matters: a product’s sales at retail may be much larger than the fee or royalty attributable to the franchise.
Home video
The series has also had physical home-video releases, including DVDs. A season set or episode collection is a way to own episodes rather than access them through a broadcast schedule or subscription catalog. The historical overview supports home video as a distribution category, but it does not establish current stock, edition completeness, regional availability or DVD sales as a significant present-day revenue source.
Fox renewal keeps new episodes on broadcast television
In an April 2, 2025 announcement, Fox Corporation said the show would continue on Fox for four additional seasons, seasons 37 through 40, through the 2028–29 broadcast cycle. The announcement names 20th Television Animation, part of Disney Television Studios, as the production company. Fox Corporation’s renewal announcement documents a continuing relationship between the series’ production and Fox’s broadcast schedule; it does not disclose a Simpsons-specific payment or revenue figure.
The arrangement is a useful reminder that a show’s production and its broadcast home are distinct roles. Disney Television Studios’ 20th Television Animation produces the series, while Fox carries new episodes. Those facts alone do not establish the detailed ownership, licensing or distribution terms behind each revenue stream.

Disney+ adds a streaming window and new episodes
On May 28, 2026, Disney+ announced three all-new exclusive Simpsons episodes for summer 2026. The announcement described a Disney+ collection with all 36 seasons, The Simpsons Movie, more than ten shorts and additional material. Disney+’s announcement shows the franchise extending through platform catalog distribution and exclusive episodes.

What is—and is not—known about the money
The reviewed official company materials do not give a current standalone figure for The Simpsons’ total revenue or profit, nor separate present-day amounts for broadcast advertising, syndication, merchandise or streaming. Fox’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K is a corporate filing, not a franchise-level financial statement; Disney’s annual-report page is a corporate reporting index, not a Simpsons revenue disclosure. Accordingly, a definitive current lifetime value cannot be established from these materials. Older headline estimates should not be presented as audited current totals: they may refer to retail sales, licensing, distribution receipts or another measure, each with a different scope. Without a clear measurement basis and date, such figures cannot responsibly be combined into one franchise valuation.

The durable commercial logic is the ability to serve different audiences and contexts over time. New broadcast seasons keep the series in the television schedule; licensed products let characters reach consumers beyond the screen; physical releases offer episodes in owned collections; and streaming makes a large catalog available alongside platform-exclusive programming. These are complementary opportunities, not proof that every channel contributes equally or that any one is currently the largest.
What the public announcements establish is longevity and continued distribution: Fox announced four more seasons through 2028–29, and Disney+ announced three exclusive episodes for summer 2026 within a broad catalog. They do not reveal the franchise’s current financial performance. The strongest supported account of its success is therefore a history of sustained, multi-channel commercialization—not a precise revenue total.
