The Sandbox announced a Jurassic World collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences and Amblin Entertainment on March 18, 2024. Its planned debut was Jurassic World: Dinosaur Preserve, a game set in an Arizona dinosaur sanctuary. The experience later featured in The Sandbox’s Alpha Season 5, which began on March 31, 2025. Official materials establish that it ran then, but do not confirm whether it remains playable today.
What was the Jurassic World collaboration?
The March 2024 announcement described a partnership between The Sandbox, Universal Products & Experiences, and Amblin Entertainment to bring Jurassic World into The Sandbox platform. The companies planned multiple games and immersive experiences, alongside limited-edition digital collectibles such as playable characters, dinosaurs, and wearables. The first announced game was Jurassic World: Dinosaur Preserve. The Sandbox said it was available free on Windows and Mac; the announcement did not make a purchase necessary to try the platform.
The Sandbox initially described the game as the flagship release for Alpha Season 5, then planned for March 2025. That was a future schedule in the 2024 announcement, not a current launch date. In its partnership announcement, The Sandbox’s CEO and co-founder Arthur Madrid said the collaboration would bring Jurassic World into the platform through gamified experiences.
What is Jurassic World: Dinosaur Preserve?
The announced setting was a dinosaur sanctuary in Arizona. Players took the role of members of the Dinosaur Protection Group, carrying out duties to keep the facilities running through exploration, collecting, and quests. The original announcement also described a limited-quantity collection of dinosaur eggs: players could hatch and evolve species of different rarities, including Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptors.

The Sandbox’s Alpha Season 5 guide, published in 2025, added detail about how the experience worked during that season. Players gathered resources and worked to protect the park’s prehistoric inhabitants. The guide described sandstorms and wildfires, randomized challenges, a day-night cycle, an ecosystem to manage, and weekly quests. Completing park duties earned Jurassic Points, which players could use to upgrade the sanctuary or grow dinosaur eggs. It said hatched dinosaurs could be kept as digital collectibles in a wallet or placed in a player’s Sandbox experience. These are mechanics documented for the 2025 season; the guide does not establish that they remain unchanged.
When did it launch, and what was Alpha Season 5?
The Sandbox’s 2025 guide says Alpha Season 5 began at 14:00 UTC on March 31 and ran for six weeks. The season island had six regions and more than 40 experiences, featuring content from more than 20 partner brands. The guide advertised up to $1 million USD in rewards and said players could access up to 710 SAND during the season. Both figures describe the season’s advertised offers, not verified payouts or current rewards.

Are the dinosaurs and rewards digital or physical?
The collaboration involved distinct kinds of access and items. Playing the experience was separate from obtaining digital collectibles, and both differed from physical merchandise tied to a past virtual LAND sale.
- Game access: Playing Dinosaur Preserve in The Sandbox was the interactive experience. The 2024 announcement said the platform was available free on Windows and Mac.
- Digital collectibles: The announced eggs, hatched dinosaurs, characters, and wearables were digital items. The 2025 guide said hatched dinosaurs could be held in a wallet or placed in a Sandbox experience.
- Physical rewards: A 2025 Wildlands LAND sale announcement described a physical Raptor Blue figurine and T-shirt as rewards associated with Premium LAND ownership. These were historical sale rewards, not items required to play the game or evidence of a current retail offer.
Can you still play Dinosaur Preserve?
The official materials establish that Dinosaur Preserve appeared in Alpha Season 5 and was promoted again in July 2025, but they do not establish whether the main experience remains playable on October 8, 2026. The Sandbox’s Movie Premiere Event page displayed zero experiences in its event categories when accessed on that date. Because it is a page for that event, its listing does not confirm the status of the main game.
