Skip Tracer Randy becomes an unlikely comic sidekick to John Nolan in The Rookie Season 4 episode “Long Shot.” The episode pairs the eager bounty hunter with Nolan and Officer Nyla Harper for Randy’s first case, setting up a rapport that makes “new best friend” a fitting description of their dynamic.
Who is Skip Tracer Randy?
Randy is a recurring oddball played by Flula Borg. Apple TV’s episode listing credits Borg as Skip Tracer Randy.
Why does Randy call Nolan his new best friend?
The joke is the contrast between Randy’s eager familiarity and Nolan’s more measured reactions. Randy treats Nolan like an instant companion; Nolan is less demonstrative, which gives their scenes a playful mismatch. “New best friend” captures that comic rapport rather than establishing a literal friendship status or a major shift in Nolan’s life.
A fan-maintained transcript records Randy calling Nolan his “new bestie.” The line is best understood in the context of the episode, not as an official characterization or production statement.
