Connections asks players to find four groups of four words that share a connection. The New York Times Help Center describes the task this way: “Players are given 16 words and must find groups of four items that share something in common.”

Yellow — Computer input devices

  • Microphone
  • Mouse
  • Scanner
  • Tablet

Green — Building materials

  • Brick
  • Concrete
  • Metal
  • Stone

Blue — Helpful deed

  • Favor
  • Kindness
  • Service
  • Solid

Purple — #1 songs from 1982

  • Abracadabra
  • Centerfold
  • Mickey
  • Physical

How the colors work

The New York Times Help Center ranks the color groups from yellow, the easiest, to purple, the trickiest. In this puzzle, the yellow category links everyday computer input devices, while the purple category depends on recognizing songs that reached No. 1 in 1982.

Can you play an old Connections puzzle?

The New York Times says its Connections archive reaches back to June 12, 2023, and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Completed archived puzzles cannot be replayed, so the archive is for accessing past puzzles rather than replaying ones you have already finished.
