Hints for the June 1 Connections groups
Connections asks you to sort 16 words into four groups of four, with each group sharing a connection. For this puzzle, try these clues before looking at the categories or answers:
- Yellow: An impatient person might use these words to urge someone to act.
- Green: Think of things you might encounter at sea.
- Blue: These are movements you can do with dumbbells.
- Purple: The words sound like the surnames of well-known philosophers.
For gentler prompts, Forbes suggested “get a move on,” “elements of the sea,” “handheld workouts,” and “they sound like great thinkers.” Forbes’ June 1 hints and answers.

The four categories are DON’T DELAY!, OCEAN PHENOMENA, DUMBBELL EXERCISES, and PHILOSOPHER HOMOPHONES. The first three groups connect through meaning; the last depends on how the words sound.

Why the purple group works
Each word is a sound-alike for a philosopher’s surname: LOCK is Locke, MARKS is Marx, PANE is Paine, and RUSTLE is Russell. Forbes identifies the philosopher references in its explanation of the solution: Forbes’ solution guide.
