What happened at Michael Rubin’s Fourth of July party?
Maguire and Chee were among the guests at the annual Independence Day party hosted by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin in the Hamptons, New York. PEOPLE, in a report syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment on July 5, 2024, described a photograph showing Maguire with his arm around Chee and reported that Chee shared party images on Instagram Stories. Hindustan Times also reported the sighting on July 8.
The photograph documents how the two appeared together at the event; it does not establish what their relationship was. Contemporary reports listed Maguire as 49 and Chee as 20 at the time. Those are ages reported in July 2024, not current ages.
Were Tobey Maguire and Lily Chee dating?
The cited coverage did not establish that they were a couple. Hindustan Times reported that neither had officially commented on a relationship, while PEOPLE said representatives had not immediately responded to its requests for comment.

Us Weekly reported on July 8, citing an unnamed source, that Maguire was “casually hanging out” with Chee and that it was “nothing serious.” That is the outlet’s account of what its source said—not an on-record statement from Maguire or Chee.
What did Jennifer Meyer say?
Maguire’s former spouse, Jennifer Meyer, spoke about her close family bond with him in comments The Independent connected to remarks she made on The World’s First Podcast in 2022: “I would literally do anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother. I love him to death and we have the most beautiful family.” Those comments concerned Meyer and Maguire’s relationship after their separation; they did not confirm or explain the nature of Maguire’s encounter with Chee.

The Times of India reported on July 9 that Meyer said Maguire was helping Chee to her car. That account is attributed to the outlet’s report of Meyer’s comments. It does not, by itself, prove or disprove a romantic relationship.
