Tina Fey said she learned the day after the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards that a brief wardrobe slip had been visible during the broadcast: her mother told her. Fey recalled the moment in Los Angeles on January 29, 2025, linking it to the night she and fellow 30 Rock writer Tracey Wigfield won an Emmy.
What Tina Fey said about finding out
At the Next on Netflix Special Presentation on January 29, 2025, Fey revisited the incident in an anecdote about the award she and Wigfield shared for writing the final episode of 30 Rock. AOL, reporting remarks originally covered by People, quoted Fey: “Tracey and I won an Emmy together for writing the final episode of 30 Rock, an Emmy night I’ll never forget because I had a ‘nipple slip’ on the broadcast and I found out the next day from my mother!”

Fey wore a cobalt-blue Narciso Rodriguez halter gown, AOL reported; the Los Angeles Times also identified it as a blue Narciso Rodriguez gown. The available accounts do not establish an exact model.
Fey joked about it soon afterward
The wardrobe moment became material for an Saturday Night Live promotional spot with Kenan Thompson later that week. Fey raised her arms and joked, “Forgot my shirt,” playing along with the news coverage. CBS News covered the promo on September 25, 2013, and the Los Angeles Times reported on it the next day.
