He was taken to a hospital, where he died after lifesaving efforts. Reports at the time said the official cause of death had not been established.
What happened to Caleb Graves at the Disneyland half marathon?
The Los Angeles Times reported that Graves crossed the finish line at about 7 a.m. clutching his chest. A volunteer caught him as he collapsed. Anaheim Fire and Rescue personnel were nearby, began lifesaving measures and transported him to a hospital.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Matt Sutter told the Los Angeles Times, “Unfortunately, they worked on him for about an hour, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.” The Orange County Coroner’s Office identified him as Bobby Graves, 35, of Garden Grove. He was publicly known by his middle name, Caleb. Los Angeles Times
FOX 11 reported that authorities described cardiac arrest at the scene, while also saying the official cause of death was unknown. Cardiac arrest describes a medical event; it does not, by itself, establish the underlying cause of death. FOX 11

Was heat the cause of his death?
No cause had been established in the September 2024 reports. The race took place during a Southern California heat wave, but the coverage does not establish the temperature at the time Graves ran or prove that heat caused his death.
The day before the race, Graves posted a video saying he had passed out after walking his dog outside and expressing worry about the next morning. “I really hope I get through the race tomorrow morning,” he said. He also described the “UV exposure with the heat in Southern California” as “its own kind of beast.” These were his own remarks, not a clinical diagnosis or evidence of the cause of his death. The Guardian reported that Graves had urged other runners to take care in the heat, writing, “Stay hydrated and listen to your body.” The Guardian
Who was Caleb Graves?
Graves was a distance runner and Disney theme-park fan who shared Disney and running content under the account @calebgtravels. The Los Angeles Times reported that he had run Walt Disney World full and half marathons earlier in 2024 and in 2023; Runner’s World also covered his Disney races and running posts. Disneyland Resort spokesperson Jessica Good said, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and our hearts are with Caleb’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.” The Los Angeles Times reported that Disney did not respond to its questions about measures taken to prevent heat exhaustion during the race. That account of the newspaper’s inquiries does not show whether precautions were or were not taken. Los Angeles Times

September 2024 reporting said the coroner’s office was investigating the cause of death. No later authoritative determination is established by the sources cited here, so claims that heat stroke or another specific condition caused Graves’s death should not be presented as fact.
