Spoilers for To Be Hero X Episodes 1 and 2. Episode 2, “Moon,” brings back the striking visuals, lively characters and world-building that made the premiere stand out. Its one conspicuous weakness, according to reviewers, is how quickly it moves past the mystery of Moon’s apparent death.
What happens in To Be Hero X Episode 2?
Apple TV lists “Moon” as Season 1, Episode 2, with a runtime of 22 minutes and a release date of April 12, 2025. Its synopsis says Nice and Moon work together to meet fans’ expectations while devising a plan to regain their freedom. Apple TV’s episode listing provides the official platform description.
In its review, But Why Tho? describes an episode that looks back at how the original Nice and Moon met, using a storybook-like opening to frame their relationship. Meanwhile, Lin Ling—now occupying Nice’s place—has to face the reality of the situation. The episode’s focus is not simply on superhero spectacle: it also explores how the public’s expectations shape the people expected to embody those heroes.
Is Moon really dead in Episode 2?
Spoiler: No. Episode 1 ends with Moon appearing dead after Lin finds her, but Episode 2 shifts to Moon alive and exercising. But Why Tho? critic Charles Hartford objects that the episode offers too little explanation or discussion for that abrupt change. FandomWire also questions how quickly the apparent death is handled. These are critical judgments about the storytelling, rather than evidence of a continuity error.

What is the major flaw in the episode?
The main criticism is the transition from Moon’s apparent death to her being alive. The episode’s premise invites a question about what happened, but the quick shift leaves little room to address it before the story moves on. FandomWire adds that the Nice and Moon relationship could have received more exploration. The episode does spend time establishing their bond, but these reviewers wanted more room for its emotional stakes—and for the consequences of the cliffhanger.
What does Episode 2 do well?
Character and world-building
But Why Tho? praises the characters, narrative and world-building, with the Nice-and-Moon relationship at the center. The setup of heroes trying to meet public expectations while seeking freedom gives the episode a tension beyond the immediate action. These are the reviewer’s assessments, not a claim of audience consensus.

Visual composition
Hartford highlights the episode’s central art style and a visually striking shot near the end. The review’s visual reservation is that a comic-book-inspired fight sequence departs from the style the reviewer found most compelling. That contrast is a matter of taste: the criticism is not that the action is inherently unsuccessful, but that its look feels less cohesive to this reviewer.
How was the episode received?
But Why Tho? gave “Moon” an 8/10. That is Hartford’s individual critic score, not an audience rating or aggregate. FandomWire’s separate criticism overlaps on the handling of Moon’s apparent death and the scope of the relationship story, while the available reviews emphasize different aspects of the episode.
