No confirmed evidence shows that the 2022 Thunderbolts* plot leak predicted the film’s New Avengers reveal. The rumor, attributed to a 4chan post relayed through Reddit, came with an explicit warning from BGR that its details might be inaccurate. The film has since been released, and post-release coverage identified Valentina presenting the team as the New Avengers as its key twist.
What did the Thunderbolts plot leak claim?
In an article updated November 21, 2022, BGR’s Chris Smith reported a plot outline attributed to an anonymous 4chan post that had been relayed through Reddit. The outline was rumor, not official Marvel information; BGR cautioned that there was “no guarantee the details are accurate.”
Among its claims, the outline cast Zemo as Valentina’s adviser and Melina as the team’s operations chief, and floated Songbird as a possible member. It alleged that Yelena would turn against Valentina over Natasha’s death, that factions within the team would fight, and that Valentina would kill Melina before Yelena killed Valentina. It also mentioned a message from Citizen V. These details are claims made by the reported leak, not verified plot facts.
What was the film’s twist?
Thunderbolts* was released in the United States on May 2, 2025, according to Disney’s official film listing. In a spoiler-marked account published that day, TIME described the reveal as Valentina trying to salvage her reputation by presenting the Thunderbolts as the New Avengers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That is the concrete twist relevant to the old headline. The 2022 report instead described a trajectory involving Songbird and Citizen V, and claimed Yelena would kill Valentina and disband the team. The reviewed post-release account does not establish that the old rumor predicted the New Avengers reveal, nor does it establish whether any part of the rumor came from an early draft.
Was the Thunderbolts plot leak real?
The report’s provenance was an anonymous 4chan post relayed through Reddit, and BGR itself warned readers that the details could be wrong. The specific Songbird, Melina, and Citizen V claims remain unverified in the sources reviewed here. A later, separate leak story published by FirstCuriosity on May 29, 2024 said Valentina’s team would discover they had been sent into a trap; that secondary account is not official confirmation of the earlier rumor.
