The Spring 2025 anime at the center of the debate is Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, adapted from Yuichi Hiiragi’s manga. The controversy is not evidence of one confirmed Crunchyroll censorship decision: it combines reported reactions to explicit sexual imagery with separate criticism of the story’s coercive relationship dynamic. Japanese official sources confirm that the show had distinct distribution categories, but they do not establish which cut Crunchyroll streamed in every territory or explain any episode-level delay.
What is the controversy about?
Coverage published shortly after the anime began airing described viewers reacting to its unusually explicit sexual imagery and questioning how that content appeared on a mainstream streaming platform despite an 18+ label. The same report also noted objections to the power imbalance between Takamine and Shirota. These are reported reactions, not a measured survey or an official explanation from Crunchyroll. OtakuKart’s April 4, 2025 report
Those concerns are related to the show but are not the same claim. One asks whether imagery was edited or restricted for a particular release; the other asks how the series depicts Takamine’s leverage over Shirota and their interactions. The available sources do not establish that a platform censorship decision caused the character-related criticism.
Did Crunchyroll censor the anime?
The available documentation does not establish a universal yes or no. The Japanese anime website distinguishes a “special distribution version” from a “general broadcast/distribution version,” with separate schedules. That confirms multiple Japanese distribution categories existed; it does not identify the exact cut Crunchyroll carried in each country, for each episode, or on each date. Crunchyroll’s 2024 announcement presented two teaser trailers as “Wholesome” and “Pervert.” Those labels show that its marketing used different tones; they do not prove that Crunchyroll streamed a particular version, that an episode was edited, or that a later delay resulted from censorship. What versions and dates are confirmed?
The official Japanese schedule records a general broadcast/distribution launch on April 2, 2025, and a special distribution version beginning April 8, exclusively on d Anime Store. It also lists Japanese broadcasters and other distribution services. These dates and service labels describe the Japanese release schedule, not international Crunchyroll availability.

| Listed category | Service or outlet | Japanese schedule date | What the listing establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| General broadcast/distribution version | Japanese broadcasters and multiple listed distribution services | Broadcast and distribution began April 2, 2025 | The official site’s general release category and schedule; it does not specify the cut on every international service. |
| Special distribution version | d Anime Store | Distribution began April 8, 2025 | A separately labeled Japanese distribution category; the schedule alone does not establish its scene-by-scene differences from other versions. |
Calling one edition simply “censored” and the other “uncensored” goes beyond what these schedule labels show. A reliable comparison would need to identify the territory, service, episode, date, and specific scene. The available sources do not supply that complete comparison for Crunchyroll.
Was an episode delayed because of censorship?
No retrieved primary statement explains a Crunchyroll episode delay or attributes a version change to censorship. The Japanese schedule and Crunchyroll’s teaser announcement do not answer why a specific international episode may have appeared later or differed from another release. Without a platform statement or an episode-specific comparison, the cause should be treated as unconfirmed rather than asserted as fact.

Where does the anime fit in the release history?
Crunchyroll promoted the adaptation as part of its Spring 2025 anime slate. The official Japanese website later announced a three-volume Blu-ray/DVD release, with volume one scheduled for July 25, 2025. That release information confirms a planned physical release in Japan; it does not, by itself, document how its video compares with streaming editions. Official anime-site news
