Chris Martin and Ade Edmondson were represented by cut-outs at Wembley, while Michael Jackson and Freddie Starr have other reported links to the club—but those links do not establish that they supported Exeter City.
David Earl: a documented Exeter City supporter
Earl, an actor and comedian, described choosing Exeter City after moving to Devon with his family. In a May 2022 interview with the club, he said he had previously supported Manchester United without watching them in person. He wanted the ritual of live Saturday football and began following City after attending his first match in October 2021. He bought a season ticket and said he had not missed many home games since.
That is the strongest evidence among the names often linked to Exeter: Earl spoke about his own support, and the club reported his attendance and season ticket. ITV West Country also described his connection as a newfound love of Exeter City. These accounts document his support at the time; they do not verify how often he attends or whether his circumstances have changed since 2022.

Chris Martin and Ade Edmondson: Wembley cut-outs, not proof of fandom
In 2020, Exeter City reported that Coldplay singer Chris Martin and comedian Ade Edmondson had cut-outs displayed at Wembley. The cut-outs were part of the club’s virtual crowd campaign. Their presence shows a connection to that event, but it does not establish that either man is a regular supporter.
The club said there were 1,748 virtual cut-out fans at Wembley, including more than 1,200 bought for the semi-final and a further 500 for the final. Those numbers describe the campaign, not the number of celebrity fans.

Michael Jackson: an appearance at St James Park
A Manchester City feature recounts Michael Jackson’s appearance at Exeter’s St James Park at an event associated with Uri Geller and David Blaine. That documents a visit to the ground, not support for Exeter City. A celebrity’s presence at a club venue or event is not, by itself, evidence of club allegiance.

Freddie Starr: reported purchase interest, but an Everton supporter
The Grecian Archive, associated with the University of Exeter, describes comedian Freddie Starr as an Everton supporter and a friend of former Exeter manager Alan Ball. It also records that Starr attended an Exeter match and reportedly bid to buy the club in September 1993. A match visit, friendship or reported attempt to purchase a club does not make someone a supporter of that club; the archive identifies Starr with Everton.

Joe Wilkinson supports Gillingham, not Exeter City
Comedian Joe Wilkinson is connected to Earl through their podcast, but that association should not be mistaken for shared football allegiance. Exeter City and ITV identify Wilkinson as a Gillingham supporter, while Earl is the one documented as supporting Exeter.

Among these commonly linked names, Earl has the clearest documented case of supporting Exeter City: his own account and the club’s reporting describe repeated attendance and a season ticket in 2021–22. The other examples are narrower—cut-outs, a visit, a reported business interest, or a connection through a friend—and do not show equivalent allegiance. The cited sources do not establish a complete list of famous Exeter City supporters or verify current attendance.
