As of October 8, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes lists season 4 at 61% from critics and 19% from audience ratings.
What are The Witcher season 4’s Rotten Tomatoes scores?
Rotten Tomatoes lists season 4 at 61% on the Tomatometer from 28 reviews and 19% on the Popcornmeter from 2,500+ ratings, as displayed on October 8, 2026. Those figures may change as the site adds reviews or ratings. The Tomatometer and Popcornmeter are separate aggregates: one reflects counted critic reviews, the other audience ratings. Neither is a tally of every viewer’s opinion.
The site lists Netflix as the season’s streaming provider and October 30, 2025, as its release date. Rotten Tomatoes’ season 4 page also gives this critics consensus: “While Geralt of Rivia gets a new face, The Witcher overall is beginning to grow stale in a fourth season that dutifully sets up the series’ endgame without having enough fun along the way.” That is Rotten Tomatoes’ editorial summary, not a statement by one individually named critic.
How do those scores compare with season 1?
On the same service, season 1 is listed at 68% on the Tomatometer from 92 reviews and 88% on the Popcornmeter from 10,000+ ratings. Rotten Tomatoes dates its release to December 20, 2019. The season 1 figures were also checked on October 8, 2026, and can change. Rotten Tomatoes’ season 1 page describes it as a series in which “Henry Cavill brings brawny charisma to a series teeming with subversive fantasy elements and dark humor.”
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

These are Rotten Tomatoes’ displayed figures as of October 8, 2026; the review and rating counts differ substantially, especially for audience ratings. The season 4 scores are lower than season 1’s on both measures, but that is a comparison between two seasons on one platform—not a complete ranking of every Witcher adaptation, game, novel, or other release.
Does this establish the franchise’s worst reviews ever?
No. The headline “The Witcher is getting its worst reviews ever” is broader than the verified comparison. It has been used for discussion spanning the Netflix adaptation, the spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin, the games, and the source material. Rotten Tomatoes’ season pages establish how seasons 1 and 4 compare there; they do not establish that season 4 ranks below every Witcher project on every review platform.
Rank #2
A defensible conclusion is narrower: The Witcher season 4 has lower displayed Rotten Tomatoes critic and audience scores than season 1. Calling it the franchise’s worst-reviewed entry requires a defined set of titles and a consistent platform and scoring method. Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and other services use different systems and collect different reviews, so figures from them should not be treated as one interchangeable ranking.

The scores indicate a difference in reception; by themselves, they do not explain its cause. Rotten Tomatoes’ season 4 consensus points to a sense of staleness, the season’s focus on setting up the endgame, and a perceived lack of fun. That offers one summary of the critics’ response, not proof that a particular cast or creative decision caused the scores. Nor should the audience percentage be presented as a professional-review score.

For viewers who want to compare the adaptation with its literary roots, Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Last Wish is a relevant starting point. A comparison with the novels is a separate question from how season 4 has been rated.

How to read The Witcher review scores fairly
- Keep the title and medium clear: a Netflix season, a spin-off, a game, and a novel are different works.
- Name the platform: a Rotten Tomatoes percentage is not directly interchangeable with a score on another service.
- Separate critics from audiences: the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter measure different groups.
- Include counts and date: a percentage without its review or rating count, or without when it was checked, can conceal important context.
