Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is based on a reported armed robbery after Muhammad Ali’s October 26, 1970 comeback fight against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta. A 2024 account by People, republished by Yahoo, says masked robbers took an estimated $1 million in cash, jewelry and other valuables from a private afterparty. That figure is a reported estimate, not a verified accounting, and the series dramatizes the event rather than documenting every detail as established fact.
What happened after Ali fought Jerry Quarry?
On October 26, 1970, Muhammad Ali returned to the ring against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta. According to the 2024 People account republished by Yahoo, a private party followed the bout. The gathering was hosted by Atlanta figure Gordon “Chicken Man” Williams and reportedly featured gambling tables and a bar.
The account says masked men carrying shotguns entered, ordered guests onto the floor and took valuables. It reports that no shots were fired and that the robbers had watched the location before the event. These particulars are reported by a secondary source; the original newspaper account and police records were not available to verify them independently. Read the People account republished by Yahoo.
How much was stolen?
The haul was estimated at about $1 million in cash, jewelry and other valuables, according to the People article, which attributes the figure to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It should be understood as a reported estimate, not a confirmed or audited total.

What is reported about the investigation?
The same article says some people suspected Williams of arranging the robbery, while Williams maintained that he, too, was a victim. It also reports that two men were indicted under names later described as aliases, then shot before trial in the Bronx in May 1971. Without the indictment or contemporary reporting in hand, those claims—and the identities and case outcome—should remain attributed to that account rather than treated as independently established.
How does the Peacock series relate to the reported event?
Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist is a drama based on the iHeart true-crime podcast, not a documentary. Peacock’s official page describes a story centered on Chicken Man, investigator J.D. Hudson, the afterparty and the investigation. The page lists the 2024 series as one season of eight episodes, rated TV-MA, with a premiere date of September 5, 2024. See the series and episode listings on Peacock.
The historical account and the television version serve different purposes: the former reports an event and a disputed investigation; the latter shapes them into an eight-episode dramatic narrative. A scene, exchange of dialogue or relationship shown onscreen should not be taken as proof that it happened exactly that way. The article reports that producer Will Packer and showrunner Shaye Ogbonna discussed the project’s roots in real events and Atlanta history, while recognizing that the series format allowed room to expand the story.
