The X-Files reboot is in development as a Hulu pilot, not a confirmed Disney+ release. Ryan Coogler is writing and directing the pilot, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel attached to star. No series order or release date has been announced in the cited updates.
Is the X-Files reboot coming to Disney Plus?
The project has a pilot order for Hulu, according to TheWrap’s February 2026 report. That does not establish that a full series will be made, or that this specific title will stream on Disney+.
Disney describes Hulu as a general-entertainment brand outside the United States and says eligible U.S. bundle subscribers can stream Hulu content in the Disney+ app. That is general platform information, not an announcement of this reboot’s distribution. Its eventual home outside the U.S. has not been confirmed in the sources cited here. See Disney+’s About page for the general platform description.
What is the status, and when could it come out?
As of Netflix Tudum’s June 18, 2026 announcement, Proximity Media was producing the pilot. The announcement does not say that the project has been ordered to series or provide a release date. Netflix Tudum’s update is the latest title-specific official status cited here.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A pilot is a test episode developed for a potential series; a pilot order alone is not a guarantee that a series will follow. With no release date announced, there is not yet a confirmed window for viewers to watch it.
Who is making the new X-Files?

- Jennifer Yale: reported as showrunner and executive producer.
- Proximity Media: producing the pilot, according to the June update.
- Production companies: TheWrap reported that 20th Television is producing for Hulu’s Onyx Collective.

TheWrap’s March 2026 report details Patel’s attachment, Yale’s role and the production team. Carter’s remarks and the project’s initial announcement were covered in TheWrap’s February report.

Who is in the cast, and what is the premise?
Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel are attached as the leads. The project’s reported official logline describes “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents” who form an unlikely bond after being assigned to “a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.” The premise returns to the franchise’s blend of FBI investigations and the paranormal, while centering a new pair of agents.
Neither Gillian Anderson nor David Duchovny has a confirmed role in the reboot in the reporting cited here. Anderson has previously expressed openness to a small appearance, but that is not a casting announcement; the Guardian’s February 2026 report said original-star appearances had not been revealed.
