The Weeknd’s “Unprepared certainty…” is a video teaser posted on August 6, 2024. NME described it as about three and a half minutes long and said it seemed to contain snippets of two songs. It was part of the artist’s 2024 new-era rollout—not evidence of a newly announced release in 2026.
What is in the “Unprepared certainty…” video?
NME’s August 6, 2024 report describes two contrasting musical sections. The first is built around grand, dark strings and includes the lyric fragment “I’m all alone when it fades to black”. A later section uses strummed acoustic guitar, with the reported lines “You can change locations, you can change your name” and “They will always find a way”. NME’s report characterizes the clip as seeming to share snippets of two songs; it does not establish a definitive track list or confirm the titles of the songs.

HipHopDX also described animated imagery, including a figure it said appeared to be a younger version of the singer. Viewers discussed possible connections to earlier work, but those interpretations are fan theories reported at the time, not confirmed explanations of the animation’s meaning. HipHopDX’s coverage situates the video among a continuing sequence of teasers.
When did The Weeknd post it, and what followed?
The clip was reported on August 6, 2024, during a rollout that NME said had begun with teasers in July. NME noted that the video followed another post containing a music snippet; HipHopDX named two earlier teasers, “There Are Three Chapters To This Tale” and “The abyss gazes also into you…”. In that 2024 context, coverage described “Unprepared certainty…” as another preview of new music.

That chronology matters: the clip is a 2024 promotional video, not a fresh announcement of a 2026 release. For separate, later album-related news, Universal Music Japan announced a Japan-specific After Hours Til Dawn Collection for September 11, 2026. The announcement describes material drawing on After Hours, Dawn FM, The Idol and Hurry Up Tomorrow, with Japan-specific sequencing and artwork, as well as physical editions and pop-up merchandise. It does not establish that either song previewed in the 2024 teaser appears on a particular edition. Universal Music Japan’s announcement concerns that regional collection, not the teaser itself.
