Those are reported estimates, not independently audited totals; Netflix’s own published figures establish platform-wide viewing, not the show-specific 1.3 billion hours.
What the reported figures say
GamesBeat reported on January 27, 2025, that Owl & Co. estimated The Walking Dead games had generated more than $1 billion in consumer revenue and that the Netflix show was watched for 1.3 billion hours in 2023. GamesBeat updated its report on June 18, 2025. The original Owl & Co. report was not available in the reviewed sources, so its definitions and calculations cannot be independently checked.
The game figure is described as consumer revenue. It should not be read as publisher net receipts, profit, or money received by AMC, Skybound, or any particular developer. GamesBeat does not provide a common accounting definition or time window for the individual game amounts it lists.
Which Walking Dead games had the largest reported figures?
GamesBeat attributed the following title-level amounts to Owl & Co. These figures are reported in the article, not independently verified against the underlying report.

- Play the series that revolutionized storytelling in games. The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series contains all 4 Seasons, 400 Days DLC, and The Walking Dead: Michonne.
- “Graphic black” art style brings Season 4's enhanced visual style to all previous seasons of the acclaimed series.
- Exclusive looks at the making of the game from the developers, VO artists, and other team members that brought Clementine’s story to life.
- Character performances, lip syncing, and other gameplay and UI enhancements make this the definitive Telltale’s The Walking Dead experience.
- Music player that includes 140+ tracks across all seasons, art gallery, 3D model viewer with playable voice lines, & new 3D front end.
| Game | Figure reported by GamesBeat | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| The Walking Dead: Road to Survival | More than $500 million | Consumer revenue, as reported by GamesBeat from Owl & Co.; no shared measurement period or accounting definition is stated. |
| The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series | More than $300 million; 80 million episodes sold | GamesBeat reports both figures from Owl & Co.; the article does not clarify the accounting basis or time window for the dollar amount. |
| The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners | $100 million | Consumer revenue, as reported by GamesBeat from Owl & Co.; no shared measurement period or accounting definition is stated. |
| The Walking Dead: Survivals | $100 million | Consumer revenue, as reported by GamesBeat from Owl & Co.; no shared measurement period or accounting definition is stated. |
On the reported amounts alone, Road to Survival has the largest listed figure. That is not a fully like-for-like ranking: the article does not give a consistent time window or accounting definition for every title. The individual numbers also should not be treated as a reconciliation of the franchise-wide total.
How to interpret the 1.3 billion Netflix hours
The 1.3 billion figure is an Owl & Co. estimate for the show’s 2023 Netflix viewing, as reported by GamesBeat. GamesBeat also called the series the third-most-watched TV series that year. The Netflix source reviewed here does not confirm either the title-specific hours or that ranking.
Rank #2
- The Walking Dead is an unparalleled journey into the heart of what it means to be human in a world that has lost its humanity
- Set in Robert Kirkman's award-winning comic book universe
- Your story is determined by the choices you make
- Enhanced graphics for Season One, Season Two, 400 Days and Michonne
Netflix’s May 23, 2024 engagement report covers July through December 2023 and says it represents 99% of viewing on the service. Netflix defines a “view” as total hours viewed divided by a title’s runtime, so a view count and a total-hours figure are different measures. The report does not establish the show’s annual 1.3 billion-hour total.
For scale, Netflix reported 183 billion hours watched across its entire platform during 2023. That is a platform-wide annual total, not a figure for The Walking Dead alone. The two figures therefore answer different questions and should not be presented as if Netflix itself reported the series-specific number.

What the dollar and viewing figures do—and do not—show
GamesBeat also reported an Owl & Co. estimate that the show’s Netflix engagement was worth $83 million per year, calculated using an average cost per viewing hour. This is an attributed valuation estimate, not revenue disclosed by Netflix.
The report puts the franchise’s games and streaming reach in context, but the limits matter: GamesBeat is the available source for Owl & Co.’s estimates, and the original report was not located. GamesBeat also disclosed that the author has family working for Skybound. Netflix’s own report is useful for understanding its platform-wide metrics and reporting scope, but it does not independently validate the title-specific viewing estimate.
