What Kate Miller-Heidke said to Siena Fodera
According to PerthNow’s report, published on 7 October 2024, Fodera performed Kylie Minogue’s 2001 hit “In Your Eyes” on the Sunday-night episode. Miller-Heidke began her critique by saying the performance did not show what Fodera was capable of. She also said the song choice made it difficult for Fodera to make the performance her own.

PerthNow quoted Miller-Heidke as saying: “What I got from you during that performance was I don’t like this song and I’m in a straight jacket, you’ve got to somehow make this on your own whether or not you think it shows what you can do,”
She then added: “I don’t think this shows at all what you’re capable of, I think you’re capable of a lot more, you’re a much better singer than Kylie Minogue, it’s true.” The report says the audience gasped and applauded. Fodera replied: “Thank you, that’s high praise.”

The comparison was therefore delivered as part of a broader critique that Fodera had not made the song her own—not as a standalone assessment of Minogue. The account is PerthNow’s retrospective report; no official episode transcript or independently accessible broadcast record is established here.
Why the remark drew criticism
PerthNow said a video circulating on TikTok asked, “Did singer Kate Miller-Heidke just diss Kylie Minogue on The Voice Australia?” That wording framed the exchange as a possible insult, but it does not establish Miller-Heidke’s intent.

The report also cited critical comments left on Miller-Heidke’s Instagram post. Examples included one commenter calling the remark unnecessary and another saying she should respect Minogue. These are selected comments reported by PerthNow, not a poll or a measure of how viewers overall reacted. The article does not quantify the online response.
