The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series is the most convenient way to get Telltale’s four-season story, its 400 Days episode, and The Walking Dead: Michonne together. It is a substantial narrative collection, not a complete package of every game or adaptation in the wider franchise. Reviews praise its scope and extras but also point to uneven pacing and presentation issues.
What’s included in the Definitive Series?
Skybound Games’ Xbox product description lists all four seasons, 400 Days, and The Walking Dead: Michonne, totaling 23 unique episodes and over 50 hours of gameplay. Those are product-description figures, not independently measured completion times. The Xbox listing and Steam listing describe the collection.
That scope makes the package a practical choice for someone starting the Telltale story or seeking its central episodes in one place. If you already own some seasons, compare what you have with the included titles before buying. The series is not every Walking Dead game, comic, or screen adaptation.
What do reviews say about the collection?
Why reviewers value it
MeriStation’s 2019 review praised the breadth of the collection, the long-form narrative and the added material, awarding it 7.8/10. Its strongest appeal is convenience: the seasons and side stories are assembled in one release, alongside presentation changes and extras. Read MeriStation’s review.
#1 Best Overall
- Play the series that revolutionized storytelling in games. The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series contains all 4 Seasons, 400 Days DLC, and The Walking Dead: Michonne.
- “Graphic black” art style brings Season 4's enhanced visual style to all previous seasons of the acclaimed series.
- Exclusive looks at the making of the game from the developers, VO artists, and other team members that brought Clementine’s story to life.
- Character performances, lip syncing, and other gameplay and UI enhancements make this the definitive Telltale’s The Walking Dead experience.
- Music player that includes 140+ tracks across all seasons, art gallery, 3D model viewer with playable voice lines, & new 3D front end.
Where the experience is less consistent
The anthology covers multiple seasons and a spin-off, so its story and pacing vary. A Video Chums review listed by Metacritic characterized the package as a mixed bag and argued that the series loses momentum over time. The compilation is therefore better understood as a convenient way to experience a long narrative arc than as a guarantee that every installment is equally strong.
What does the Definitive Series add?
The official product description lists a Graphic Black visual style based on Season 4’s look, plus dynamic lighting in episodes that did not previously have it. It also advertises developer and voice-actor commentary, the short documentary Return of the Walking Dead, gameplay and interface improvements, a music player with more than 40 tracks, an art gallery, and a 3D model viewer with playable voice lines. See the Xbox and PlayStation product pages for the listed features.

MeriStation’s 2019 review found that Graphic Black could make scenes too dark and obscure details. It also reported interface, clipping, and text problems in the version it reviewed. These are observations about that review build; they do not establish that every platform or current version has the same issues.
Are the documentary extras accessible in your language?
Language needs are worth checking before purchase. MeriStation criticized the Spanish localization and reported that the documentary material in its reviewed version was in English without Spanish subtitles. That is a review-era observation about the version assessed, not a verified statement about every language edition or later build. The official listings linked above should be checked for the language and subtitle details relevant to your platform and region.

Who is the collection for?
- Good fit: players who want the four Telltale seasons and two associated releases in one collection, plus the listed archival and presentation extras.
- Consider carefully: players sensitive to darkened scenes, technical rough edges, uneven pacing, or documentary language and subtitle availability.
- Compare first: players who already own some episodes or seasons, since the practical value depends on how much of the package is new to them.
