Spoilers for the original series: Niles falls in love with Daphne long before she knows how he feels. She learns the truth in the two-part Season 7 finale, “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue,” and chooses him over her fiancé, Donny. The original series later shows them married and preparing for a child.
How Niles and Daphne’s relationship begins
Daphne Moon joins the Crane household as Martin’s live-in physical therapist and caretaker. Frasier’s younger brother, Niles, visits often—and develops a lasting attraction to her. The Television Academy describes that infatuation as growing into love over the course of the series, with Niles not openly confessing his feelings until the Season 7 finale. The Television Academy’s overview of Frasier summarizes the arc.
Why the romance takes so long to reach Daphne
For much of the early series, viewers can see Niles’s reaction to Daphne while she remains unaware of its depth. That gap fuels comedy, but it also gives the romance room to develop alongside Niles’s failing marriage to Maris, Daphne’s other relationships, and the family’s day-to-day friction.
In a 2026 interview with The Guardian, Jane Leeves said she realized by Season 2 that the story “has legs.” David Hyde Pierce described how a scene could play as funny or poignant because the audience already understood Niles’s reaction when Daphne entered a room. Leeves also recalled that the wait became long for viewers: “Seven years is a long time and I think the audience was sort of begging to please bring this to a conclusion.” Read the interview with Leeves and Hyde Pierce.

When Niles and Daphne get together
They become a couple at the end of the Season 7 finale, “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue,” a two-part story about confessions, a looming wedding, and a difficult choice. Paramount+’s descriptions say Daphne decides to profess her love, Niles drops a bombshell, and she must choose between the man she loves and the man she is engaged to marry. Paramount+’s Season 7 episode guide lists the two-part finale.
The choice resolves the long-running misunderstanding: Daphne leaves her wedding to Donny and goes to Niles. Leeves and Hyde Pierce recalled the wedding-gown scene in which Daphne knocks on Niles’s Winnebago and tells him to drive. Leeves said the live audience “lost their minds” when the actors kissed in front of them. The Guardian interview recounts the scene and audience response.

ABC News also reported that they ended up married on-screen in its 2013 account of the cast reunion: ABC News on the Frasier cast reunion.
