On March 27, Cage filed an annulment request, four days after the wedding. The Associated Press reported that the filing gave his stated reasons for seeking to undo the marriage. The AP report, published by the Portland Press Herald, covered the filing.
Why did Cage seek an annulment?
According to the Associated Press account of Cage’s filing, he said that he and Koike had been drinking “to the point of intoxication” before the wedding. The filing also said Cage claimed he did not know about Koike’s “relationship with another person.” These were allegations Cage made in his request; the cited reporting does not establish them as facts or identify them as findings by a judge.

Cage did not ask only for an annulment. CBS News reported that his filing sought a divorce as an alternative if an annulment was not possible. CBS News’ account of the filing describes that fallback request.
Was the marriage annulled or did they divorce?
Later reporting says the marriage was not annulled. El País reported that a Clark County judge granted Cage and Koike a divorce on May 31, 2019, based on court records reported by TMZ. That outcome is consistent with the filing’s alternative request for a divorce if annulment was unavailable. El País’ report covers the court outcome.

What did Cage say afterward?
In August 2019, a PEOPLE report about a New York Times Magazine interview, republished by IMDb, attributed a brief comment to Cage: “I was pretty upset about that and the way things happened.” He was referring to a recent breakup. The available account is a secondary report of the interview, rather than its transcript. IMDb’s republication of the PEOPLE report contains the quotation.
