Tim LeTourneau, a veteran producer and executive associated with Maxis and The Sims, died over the weekend before June 2, 2025, according to a report relaying an announcement by his wife, Donna. The exact date and cause of death have not been established in the available reporting.
Who was Tim LeTourneau?
LeTourneau was a game producer and executive whose career included work at Maxis and Electronic Arts, followed by roles at other game companies. PCGamesInsider reported that he joined Maxis in 1998 and worked there as a senior producer for eight years. Its career summary says he then spent two years as an executive producer at EA, became vice president and general manager of The Sims Studio in 2008, and later held senior roles at Zynga and Storm8, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and Fortis Games. These dates and positions come from that secondary account.

What did Tim LeTourneau work on?
A former Maxis colleague credited LeTourneau with production and design contributions to The Sims, The Sims 2, MySims, and other Maxis games. The colleague’s tribute described his role as helping bring projects together, treating people fairly, and working to deliver the best game possible for fans. Those comments are a colleague’s account of his work, rather than a complete or independently verified allocation of credits.

When did Tim LeTourneau die?
PCGamesInsider published its report on June 2, 2025, and said LeTourneau died “this weekend,” attributing the announcement to a social media post by his wife, Donna. That wording places his death over the weekend immediately preceding the report, but does not give a calendar date. The available sources also do not establish a cause of death.

Electronic Arts said in a February 4, 2025 announcement marking the franchise’s 25th anniversary that The Sims had reached more than 500 million lifetime players. That is EA’s cumulative franchise figure, not a count of current active players or a measurement of LeTourneau’s individual impact.
