How creativity fits into her rabbinate
Stern’s work as a rabbi and her creative practice are connected, rather than separate careers presented in opposition. In the 2026 Baltimore Jewish Times profile, she said her music and art draw on Judaism, Torah, and a spiritual understanding of love: “If I want to write a song, that song is going to be about God and Judaism or Torah or love through a spiritual lens, because that’s just me.” Baltimore Jewish Times

Her personal website presents both rabbinic work and artistic offerings, including books, music, visual art, and writing. It also features a children’s book project titled The World’s a Song; the site’s listing alone does not establish whether a retail edition is currently available. Emily Stern’s website
Her earlier work in acting and music
Stern’s public profile once focused more heavily on performance. In a January 5, 2006, CNN interview, Howard Stern called Emily his oldest daughter, said she was 22, and described her as an aspiring actress. That was his description at the time, not a current career update. CNN transcript
A 2008 Jewish Journal profile described Emily working in theatre and recording original songs, including a lead role in the science-fiction rock musical Earth Sucks. Those reports document an earlier period of her life; the more recent coverage identifies congregational leadership as her current professional role. Jewish Journal

In the 2006 CNN interview, Howard Stern said Emily had left the Kabbalah production after she felt a director had broken an agreement involving the use of her image and identifying her as his daughter in promotion. That is Howard’s account of the dispute. The 2008 Jewish Journal profile also discussed Emily’s earlier performance in the production and recounted her perspective. The disagreement should be understood as attributed accounts, not as an independently established finding. CNN transcript · Jewish Journal
