Creator and showrunner Mattson Tomlin confirmed in February 2026 that Netflix had canceled the series after one season. He said he had written the season-two scripts, which would have begun a larger Future War story, but the planned episodes were never produced.
Will there be a Terminator Zero season 2?
No. Tomlin confirmed the cancellation in February 2026, saying the series did not draw enough viewers for Netflix to continue it. He described the critical and audience reception as strong, but the sources reporting his statement do not provide independently audited viewing figures. Variety Australia reported his cancellation statement.

What was planned for season 2?
A Future War story
Tomlin said he wanted seasons two and three to deliver the Future War story he had planned. He also said he had completed the season-two scripts and outlined most of season three. These were written and outlined plans, not commissioned or filmed episodes; the scripts have not been identified as publicly available.
In his statement, Tomlin said, “I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in season’s 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is.”

A longer journey for Malcolm Lee’s children
Before the series premiered, Tomlin described a broader possible arc that would follow Malcolm Lee’s children after Judgment Day, as they grew up and moved through time in attempts to repair the future. In an August 2024 interview with Netflix’s Tudum, he said his ideal was six seasons. By the time of his February 2026 cancellation statement, he described having intended a five-season run. Those figures reflect ambitions he discussed at different points, not Netflix season orders.
Tomlin’s early description gives a sense of the planned story’s scale, but it does not establish which parts would have appeared specifically in season two. Netflix Tudum’s 2024 interview and ending explainer covers the series’ premise and the earlier multi-season vision.
How season one set up more story
Netflix describes Terminator Zero as an anime that moves between timelines. In 1997 Tokyo, scientist Malcolm Lee prepares Kokoro, an AI intended to counter Skynet, while Eiko, a soldier from the future, is sent to protect him from a Terminator. The future timeline follows human survivors fighting machines.
The season-one finale reveals that Malcolm came from beyond 2022 and that Eiko is his mother from the future. The Prophet’s identity remains unresolved; Tomlin said that story was being held for later. These open threads could have supported a continuation, but they are not evidence that a second season was ordered or made.
