How did the filmmakers recreate the cave rescue?
The production combined cave sets with location work in Australia and a small amount of landscape photography in Thailand. The Art Directors Guild says the film was shot in Queensland, Australia, with a small unit capturing the Chiang Rai landscape. The underwater cave sequences were staged on sets built to recreate the caves, and the DGA reported that the actors faced challenging underwater shoots.
