The reports link the slate to iwot Studios, Initiate Entertainment and producer Thomas Vu, but give no release dates, distributors or confirmed platforms. “Reboot” is a convenient shorthand; the coverage describes multiple projects, not a single reboot with a confirmed launch.
What new Wheel of Time projects were reported?
Variety reported on March 19, 2026, that Thomas Vu and Anthony Borquez’s media company, Initiate Entertainment, would work with iwot Studios executives Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon on a group of new projects. The reported slate includes:
- An animated television series
- Animated feature films
- A PC/mobile video game
Yahoo-hosted coverage of Variety’s report is syndicated reporting, rather than a primary announcement from iwot or Initiate. GamesRadar’s March 20 coverage and PC Gamer’s March 22 coverage also describe the slate. Treat these as reported plans, not as dated or released productions.
GamesRadar quoted Vu describing an opportunity to expand the franchise through “fully authentic, integrated, interactive, and animated storytelling experiences.” The same report quoted iwot CEO Rick Selvage praising Vu’s experience developing narrative worlds into entertainment franchises. Those remarks explain the stated ambition, but do not establish plot details, production milestones or a release schedule.

Is this a reboot of the TV series?
The March 2026 reports do not frame the slate as one replacement version of the existing story. They describe several projects in different formats, with no announced synopsis for the new animated series or films. Calling the news a “reboot” may help describe the return of the franchise in new forms, but it should not be taken to mean that a single new series has a confirmed story, cast, continuity or premiere date.
The franchise is based on Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels. Sony Pictures Entertainment’s 2018 announcement described the books as a fourteen-book series and said they had sold more than 90 million copies worldwide at that time; that is a historical 2018 figure, not a current sales total. The announcement’s synopsis for the earlier live-action adaptation follows Moiraine, an Aes Sedai, and five young people, one of whom may be the reincarnation of a figure prophesied to save or destroy humanity. That premise is background on the prior adaptation, not a confirmed description of the new animated projects. Sony Pictures Entertainment’s 2018 release

How does the new slate differ from the other announced projects?
The new slate was reported as separate from previously announced The Wheel of Time projects. PC Gamer and GamesRadar distinguish it from an open-world AAA action RPG and from two films: the 3D animated The White Tower and the live-action Age of Legends. PC Gamer identifies Kari Skogland as director of Age of Legends. The reporting does not establish that the projects share a creative team, continuity or schedule.
| Project | Format | How its status is described |
|---|---|---|
| New slate | Animated television series, animated feature films, PC/mobile game | Reported in development in March 2026 |
| The White Tower | 3D animated film | Identified in PC Gamer and GamesRadar coverage as a separate, previously announced project |
| Age of Legends | Live-action film | Identified as a separate, previously announced project; PC Gamer names Kari Skogland as director |
| Open-world AAA action RPG | Video game | Identified as separate from the new PC/mobile game in PC Gamer and GamesRadar coverage |
The available reporting does not provide comparable release dates, distributors, platforms or story details for these projects. In particular, the new slate should not be merged with the existing film projects or the open-world RPG simply because they share the franchise.

When and where will the new projects be released?
No release dates, distributors, streaming services, game storefronts or production timetable for the new slate were included in the cited March 2026 coverage. GamesRadar specifically reported that no timeframe had been announced for the new animation projects or game. “PC/mobile” is the reported broad description of the game, not confirmation of particular devices, operating systems, stores or a launch plan.
The previous live-action series’ availability does not answer where these new projects will appear. Amazon’s page describes the earlier adaptation and says its three seasons were available exclusively on Prime Video as of that page’s update; it does not confirm Prime Video distribution for the new slate. What can viewers and players reasonably expect?
For now, the supported takeaway is that several formats are being pursued, rather than that any one title is ready to watch or play. There is not enough reported information to say whether the animated projects adapt particular novels, whether the game follows the same story, or how the projects relate creatively to one another. Readers interested in the original source can begin with The Eye of the World, the first novel in Robert Jordan’s series; it is source material for the franchise, not a confirmed tie-in to these new projects.
