Selena Gomez has said she has Botox, but her July 2024 response did not confirm plastic surgery. In a TikTok comment reproduced by Teen Vogue, she pushed back on speculation and referred to a flare-up. The reporting cited here does not verify any other cosmetic procedure.
What Selena Gomez said about the rumors
On July 27, 2024, Gomez commented on a TikTok video about speculation over cosmetic procedures. The video had originally been posted in April 2023. Teen Vogue and Us Weekly reproduced her comment: “Honestly, I hate this. I was on stripes because of [a] flare-up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

She later added, “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes,” according to Teen Vogue’s account. Her first comment discloses Botox and refers to a flare-up; it does not confirm plastic surgery or identify another cosmetic treatment.
What is—and is not—established
- Botox: Gomez said she has Botox. That is the cosmetic treatment disclosed in the reported comment.
- A flare-up: She referred to being “on stripes” because of a flare-up. Teen Vogue said the meaning of “stripes” was unclear. Some commenters interpreted it as steroids, but Gomez’s reported words do not confirm that interpretation.
- Other surgery: The cited reporting does not verify any other cosmetic surgery. It also does not establish that she has never had surgery; the comment is not a complete medical or treatment history.
Botox and plastic surgery should not be treated as interchangeable claims. A statement about Botox is not confirmation of a surgical procedure.

Why photos do not settle the question
The TikTok video’s creator was identified by Teen Vogue as a physician assistant working in a plastic-surgery office. She said she did not think it was fair to speculate about whether Gomez had cosmetic work. That is the creator’s stated position, not an independent assessment of Gomez’s medical history.
Comparing photographs cannot establish which procedure, if any, a person has had. Images may differ in lighting, angle, expression, makeup, or timing, and they do not reveal a treatment history. The available coverage gives no verified basis for naming alleged procedures from visual comparisons.

How Gomez’s health comments fit into the discussion
Gomez has publicly discussed lupus, kidney issues, high blood pressure, body-image concerns, and weight fluctuations. In remarks quoted by Teen Vogue from 2019, she said: “I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me, that’s when I really started noticing more of the body-image stuff.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that in 2023 Gomez said medication she takes to manage lupus makes her retain water. That is context she shared about her health, not proof of what caused a particular change in her appearance.

In a TIME interview published May 29, 2024, Gomez said her lupus was in remission at that time and discussed her 2017 kidney transplant. That report reflects what she said then; it should not be read as a current health update.

The most direct evidence about the rumors is Gomez’s reported TikTok comment: she disclosed Botox, referred to a flare-up, and objected to the speculation.
