In interviews around the 2021 release of The Matrix Resurrections, Moss described Reeves as a kind, supportive colleague and a friend she holds sacred. Their public accounts point to a bond shaped by years of working together—not evidence for claims about a private romance.
What has Carrie-Anne Moss said about Keanu Reeves?
Moss has spoken warmly about Reeves’s character and the way he works. In a 2021 interview with The Guardian, she called him kind, committed and disciplined, and said, “He’s a great listener.” She also described the ease of reconnecting with a friend after time apart: “We all have those friends where you can just pick up right where you left off.”

In a 2021 interview with Fatherly, Moss was even more direct about their relationship: “He sets the bar really high, and we have a lot of fun together and we respect each other and it’s truly a friendship that I really hold sacred.” These are Moss’s public descriptions of the friendship; they do not disclose the private details of the actors’ lives.
How their friendship is connected to The Matrix
Reeves and Moss played Neo and Trinity across the Matrix films, a collaboration that gives context to their mutual respect. In Esquire’s 2021 profile, Moss described the partnership behind their performances: “In the Matrix movies, I’ve always felt like I was his partner, and he was my partner, in the execution of these characters.”

Their reunion for The Matrix Resurrections came roughly two decades after the earlier films. In a 2021 interview with ELLE, Moss reflected on how much life experience she and Reeves had gained in the intervening years. The Guardian interview captured her sense of familiarity at reconnecting: it felt like the kind of friendship where conversation can resume without awkwardness.
A small example of Reeves’s thoughtfulness
Esquire reported one concrete example of the consideration Moss described. She asked Reeves for film recommendations to watch with her teenage children, and he took time to put together a list. It is a modest gesture, not proof of anything beyond what Moss and the profile describe: a colleague who responded thoughtfully to a request from a friend.

The evidence supports a close friendship and strong professional respect, as described publicly by Moss. It does not establish a romantic relationship between Moss and Reeves, or support claims about events in their private lives beyond what they have chosen to discuss.
It is also important to separate the actors from the characters. Neo and Trinity’s romance is part of the fictional story in The Matrix; it should not be treated as evidence about the actors’ off-screen relationship. Their public comments describe friendship and a valued creative partnership.
