It is a critic’s ranking of performances from that episode—not an official show leaderboard or an audience vote—and includes singers who were eliminated as well as those who advanced.

In the Season 22 episode covered by Collider, all 20 contestants performed. Ten advanced automatically into the Top 14 and sang in celebration. The remaining ten competed for four places chosen by judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

The ten who advanced automatically were Abi Carter, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, Julia Gagnon, Kayko, Kaibrienne, McKenna Faith Breinholt, Mia Matthews, Triston Harper and Will Mosley. The judges’ four picks were Jayna Elise, Jordan Anthony, Nya and Roman Collins. Ajii, Jennifer Jeffries, Kennedy Reid, McKenzie Sol, Odell Bunton Jr. and Quintavious were eliminated.
Collider’s ordering answers a different question from the show’s results: which performances its writer considered strongest, rather than who moved forward. Its ranking uses editorial judgments about vocal execution, song choice, stage presence and connection; it does not assign measured scores.

#1 Best Overall
Collider’s top 10 performances, from No. 1 to No. 10
1. Mia Matthews — “Burning House” (Cam)
Collider places Matthews first, praising the intimacy of her solo microphone performance and her country vocal. The article also points to her ability to move between classic and contemporary country sounds.
2. Kayko — “What If…” (original)
Kayko’s original song earns the second spot. Collider highlights its storytelling and songwriting, describing the performance as a clear expression of his identity as an artist.
Rank #2
3. Triston Harper — “Till You Can’t” (Cody Johnson)
Collider emphasizes Harper’s stage presence and potential in country music. Its praise comes with a qualification: the article notes slight pitch issues. It describes Harper as 15.
4. McKenna Faith Breinholt — “Both Sides, Now” (Joni Mitchell)
Breinholt’s solo microphone performance of Mitchell’s song is presented as a standout for the way she connected with listeners.

Rank #3
5. Nya — “Water” (Tyla)
Nya’s choice of Tyla’s contemporary hit showed a different side of her, according to Collider, after she had used classic repertoire earlier in the competition.
6. Julia Gagnon — “Need a Favor” (Jelly Roll)
Collider praises the grit and growl in Gagnon’s voice and frames the Jelly Roll song as a strong change in direction for her.
7. Mackenzie Sol — “False Alarms” (Laurence featuring Jon Bellion)
Sol’s controlled delivery and falsetto stand out in this performance. Collider contrasts it with an earlier, pitchier rendition of “I’ll Never Love Again.” Sol is included in the ranking despite being eliminated from the competition.
8. Jordan Anthony — “Attention” (Charlie Puth)
Collider calls Anthony’s take on “Attention” his strongest performance of the season, while noting pitch issues in his upper register.
9. Ajii — “Call Out My Name” (The Weeknd)
Ajii’s soulful performance and vocal range earn him a place on the list despite his elimination. The ranking is about the episode performance, not the contestant’s advancement.
10. Jayna Elise — “All I Wanted” (Paramore)
Elise’s judges’ save performance closes Collider’s top ten. The article points to its dramatic staging, vocal effort and key change.

This list is limited to performances from the Top 14 reveal episode; it is not a ranking of the entire season. Its placements reflect Collider’s critic’s view, not an official American Idol result. The list also mixes musical approaches: nine contestants cover released songs, while Kayko performs an original, “What If…”.
The rankings and descriptions above are attributed to Collider’s article, published April 17, 2024, and carried by Headtopics. They should not be read as verified audience consensus.
