But that ranking came months before the film received a 2026 Oscar nomination for visual effects, so the available evidence does not show that the nomination made it a streaming hit.
What is The Lost Bus about?
Directed by Paul Greengrass, The Lost Bus is an R-rated drama starring Matthew McConaughey as a school bus driver and America Ferrera as a teacher trying to save 22 children during a wildfire. Apple describes the story as inspired by real events. Apple TV Press
Why was The Lost Bus nominated for an Oscar?
The Academy’s 98th Oscars nominations announcement, published January 22, 2026, lists The Lost Bus as an Apple Original Films production with one nomination: visual effects. It was not nominated for Best Picture. The nomination recognizes work in that category; it does not establish anything about the film’s audience size.
Did The Lost Bus become popular after its Oscar nomination?
The documented No. 1 chart position predates the nomination. Tom’s Guide reported on October 13, 2025, citing FlixPatrol, that The Lost Bus was then Apple TV Plus’s No. 1 movie. The Oscar nominations were announced on January 22, 2026. The dates establish that the reported chart position came first, not that the nomination caused it.

A chart rank is not a view count. The sources cited here provide no total streaming views and no comparison of the film’s audience before and after the nomination, so they cannot establish whether Oscar attention later increased viewing.
