What the ring means to Selena Gomez
In a joint conversation with Benny Blanco reported by ELLE, Gomez connected her choice of a marquise diamond to “Good for You.” She said: “Ever since the ‘Good for You’ days—that was, gosh, so many years ago—that’s the diamond I’ve always dreamed of.”
That statement is the clearest explanation of the ring’s “hidden meaning”: the cut recalls a period in Gomez’s career and a design she had wanted for years. It does not establish that the marquise shape has a separate, fixed meaning for everyone.
How the bespoke design changed
ELLE reported that the custom ring was designed by Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos of Abril Barret. Its marquise-shaped center diamond is accompanied by diamonds on the band. The center setting is raised and shaped to sit flush against a wedding band, according to ELLE’s September 2025 account.

The couple also described revising the original design. Blanco said it initially included large baguette diamonds on the sides. Gomez felt the extra stones made it too much: “I just think it’s too much.” Blanco said the baguettes would instead be made into earrings.
Lauren Boc, founder and CEO of Hera Fine Jewelry, told ELLE that a low-to-the-finger setting can make a large diamond more comfortable and less likely to knock or catch on things. That is a jeweler’s observation about the setting’s practical effect, not a statement from Gomez about why she chose it.

What is known—and not confirmed—about the diamond
Public reporting describes the center stone’s shape and the ring’s design, but no primary-source confirmed carat weight or purchase price is established. Published figures are estimates, and they vary: ELLE summarized estimates of five to eight carats and more than $225,000, while Vogue gave a broad estimate of roughly $200,000 to $1 million. Neither figure should be treated as a confirmed specification or price.

Gomez announced her engagement to Blanco in December 2024 with the caption “Forever begins now,” as reported by the Associated Press. The couple married in California in September 2025, according to the AP.
