That was a record for the event when the organizer announced it on December 18, 2024—but it is no longer the series record: The Game Awards reported 171 million livestreams for its 2025 broadcast.
How many livestreams did The Game Awards 2024 get?
The organizer reported an estimated 154 million global livestreams for the tenth-anniversary show, held December 12, 2024. It compared that total with 118 million livestreams in 2023 and described the increase as 31%. The figures and the record-at-the-time claim appeared in The Game Awards’ December 18, 2024 announcement.
The announcement called the 2024 audience the biggest ever. That description was accurate as of the announcement, but the later 2025 figure surpassed it.
Does 154 million mean 154 million unique viewers?
Not necessarily. The Game Awards called the figure an estimated number of “global livestreams,” but its 2024 announcement does not define that unit as unique people or explain how it combined platform counts. It also does not provide enough detail to determine how repeat viewing or cross-platform audiences were handled. The number should therefore be reported as a livestream count, not as 154 million verified individual viewers.

How does the 2024 figure compare with the 2025 record?
| Broadcast | Organizer-reported figure | Scope and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Estimated 154 million global livestreams; 31% above 118 million in 2023 | The announcement does not define unique viewers or specify whether clips and trailers were included. |
| 2025 | 171 million global livestreams of the full broadcast; up 11% from 2024 | The organizer says the total excludes associated clips and trailers and does not include Prime Video viewership. |
The 2025 total, reported by The Game Awards in December 2025, is the later series record. Its stated scope is clearer than the 2024 release’s: the organizer specifies a full-broadcast total and identifies exclusions. Those 2025 qualifications should not be assumed to describe the earlier 154 million figure. See The Game Awards’ 2025 announcement.
What other audience and engagement figures did the organizer report?
The Game Awards also published several measures that describe different aspects of the event. They are organizer-reported figures, not independent audience audits, and should not be added together or treated as interchangeable with the 154 million livestream count.
