The Brave and the Bold has not been publicly described as postponed indefinitely. In an August 2026 report, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn said the project was “in no way on hold”; he also indicated that its screenplay was still being worked on. That is a development update, not a release date or confirmation that filming is about to begin.
Is The Brave and the Bold on hold?
No, according to Gunn’s comment quoted by GamesRadar on August 27, 2026. The report addressed a rumor that the film had been put on hold amid uncertainty around a corporate merger. Gunn reportedly said: “It doesn’t sound like something Andy would have said but the project is in no way on hold.” His response disputes the hold claim; it does not establish a production start or timetable. The rumor should not be treated as a confirmed statement by director Andy Muschietti. In the same report, Gunn said he did not think the claim sounded like something Muschietti would have said.
What is the film’s current status?
The latest cited update describes a project still in screenplay development. GamesRadar also quoted Gunn saying, “There’s really no new updates,” and explaining that DC was working on a script with a screenwriter. Those comments indicate that the screenplay was in progress at the time; they do not say it was finished, that production was underway, or when either might happen. GamesRadar’s report

No release date is given in the cited status coverage. Speculation about possible years such as 2028 or 2029 is not a confirmed schedule. “Not on hold” means Gunn disputed that particular rumor; it does not mean the film is scheduled.
What is The Brave and the Bold supposed to be about?
DC announced the movie in 2023 as part of its Chapter One slate. It is intended to introduce the DCU’s Batman and pair him with Robin—Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son. Announcement coverage described Grant Morrison’s Batman comics as an influence. That establishes the announced premise and inspiration, not a scene-by-scene adaptation or a finalized screenplay. Is this the same Batman as Robert Pattinson’s?
No. The Brave and the Bold is the Batman project associated with the DCU. The Reeves-led The Batman films are a separate continuity; Associated Press described that project as outside the DCU under the then-used “DC Elsewhere” label. The two Batman projects should not be read as one shared story. Associated Press coverage

For now, the useful distinction is between what has been announced and what remains unsettled:
- Announced: a DCU Batman movie featuring Damian Wayne as Robin, with Grant Morrison’s Batman work cited as an influence.
- Reported status: Gunn disputed the claim that the project was on hold; the screenplay was still being worked on in the update reported by GamesRadar.
- Not established: a release date, a finished screenplay, or imminent production.
Readers interested in the comic influence can explore Grant Morrison’s Batman work as further reading. The announcement coverage does not identify a specific collected edition as the film’s source material. ComicBook.com’s announcement coverage
