Keith Schleiger stepped back from full-time foreman duties on The Block for its 2024 Phillip Island season because the production would have kept him away from his family for much of the filming period. He said he did not want to spend three months away from his daughters. Nine said he would still make guest appearances, while Dan Reilly took over key foreman duties.
Why Keith Schleiger stepped back
The 2024 season was filmed on Phillip Island, and Schleiger said commuting from Melbourne was not practical. He would have had to live near the production, making it difficult to see his daughters regularly. In a 9Entertainment interview, he said: “I wouldn’t have been able to commute from Melbourne, I would have to live down there. That was always going to be very hard and it just didn’t feel it was the right thing to do at the time – I don’t really want to spend three months without them.”
He also described the impact of the schedule this way: “I couldn’t see a way of seeing my children more than once a week or something like that.” His explanation centered on the time away from his family, not a reported dispute with the show.
What changed on the 2024 season
Nine reported that Schleiger stepped back from full-time duties after 16 seasons on the program. He was not absent from the season altogether: Nine said he would appear as a special guest. Foreman Dan Reilly took over key responsibilities while Schleiger was away.
That distinction matters: the reporting describes a reduced role for the 2024 season, not a confirmed permanent departure from The Block. The coverage does not establish what role Schleiger had on later seasons.
Schleiger’s family and work beyond the show
PerthNow identified Schleiger’s wife as Rebecca and his daughters as Ebony and Jasmin. Nine’s 2023 profile also names Ebony and Jasmin. Schleiger is described in that profile as a carpenter, builder and foreman.
Rank #2
In the 2024 interview, he discussed launching Keith’s Bathrooms and Renovations and described Keith’s Building Inspections as “coming soon.” Those were plans reported at the time; the available coverage does not verify the businesses’ current status.
