That is a dated, television-only U.S. measure—not a live global ranking or a definitive October 8 leaderboard. Service-specific Top 10 lists offer a more recent look at Netflix and Prime Video, but their positions use a different basis and should not be compared directly.
Which shows led across streaming services?
Nielsen’s displayed chart measures total U.S. streaming minutes viewed through television during September 14–20, 2026. Its top ten includes programs from multiple services, including licensed library titles as well as originals.

Nielsen’s chart and methodology notes define the measure and reporting week. The provider field reflects platforms with program-level data in specific reporting systems; Nielsen says viewing data can include streaming to other services as well. These are not all-device totals, global figures, or a real-time count.

East of Eden is a seven-part series based on John Steinbeck’s novel, according to the dated Netflix Top 10 summary. This is an editorial snapshot of Netflix’s own U.S. list, not a minutes-viewed ranking that can be set alongside Nielsen’s cross-service chart.

The article describes Neagley as a spin-off set in the Reacher universe, but says the series itself is an original TV story rather than an adaptation of a Lee Child novel. The September 30 list predates Netflix’s October 6 snapshot; neither ordinal list establishes how many people watched a show or provides a synchronized comparison with other services. What do the rankings tell us—and what don’t they?
Use the Nielsen chart for a shared cross-service measure
For the week it covers, Nielsen’s chart is the most directly comparable evidence across services in these snapshots because it ranks shows by the same measure: U.S. minutes viewed through television. It puts two Prime Video titles and one Netflix title in the top three, while also showing substantial viewing for older or library series such as The Big Bang Theory, Bluey, and Grey’s Anatomy.

Use service lists to see what is prominent on that service
A platform Top 10 can answer what is high on that service’s list on a particular date. It does not, by itself, say how its audience compares with another service’s list. Dates matter too: the supplied Netflix and Prime Video snapshots are six days apart.
Keep reporting periods and metrics separate
Netflix’s report for January through June 2026 says the service recorded more than 97 billion hours watched during that half. Netflix named His & Hers its most-watched show of the period at 104 million views; it reported 100 million views for season 4 of Bridgerton and 180 million views for the Bridgerton franchise over the half. Those are Netflix-reported figures for its own service and reporting period, not Nielsen U.S. weekly minutes. How current is “right now”?
The latest show-level Nielsen week displayed in the cited chart is September 14–20, 2026; the service-specific snapshots here are Netflix on October 6 and Prime Video on September 30. Nielsen announced on September 16 that clients could receive Streaming Content Ratings data daily rather than once weekly, but that change in client delivery does not make the public Top 10 chart a real-time ranking. Its week label remains essential context. The announcement is described in Nielsen’s September 16 update.
All rankings above are U.S.-focused. They do not establish the most-watched shows worldwide, and availability can differ by country. The evidence here does not provide current service-list snapshots for Disney+, Apple TV, HBO Max, Hulu, Paramount+, or Peacock, so it cannot support a complete October 8 ranking for every major streamer.

How to judge a claim that a show is “the biggest”
- Metric: Is the claim based on minutes, hours, views, or just a position on one service’s list?
- Period: Does it name a week, a day, or a longer reporting window?
- Geography and device scope: Is it U.S. viewing through television, a service’s U.S. list, or a global all-device total?
- Source: Is the number from a third-party measurement provider, the platform itself, or an editorial summary of a platform list?
- Coverage: Does the ranking compare several services on one basis, or only titles within one service?
A useful comparison names all of these limits alongside the ranking. Without them, “most popular” may refer to unlike things.
