In the U.S., Lionsgate Limited lists a Region A collector’s Blu-ray and a separate playable VHS edition for October 13, 2026; the Blu-ray includes three cuts, while the VHS contains the restored theatrical cut.
What is different about the restored version?
The restoration goes back to the two formats used to shoot the film: Hi8 video and 16mm black-and-white film. The original edit was assembled on a Media 100XR system. For theatrical exhibition, the DigiBeta master was transferred to 35mm by telecine.

Producer Michael Monello told Gizmodo that the later home-video version mistakenly used that 35mm transfer instead of the DigiBeta master. He said the choice introduced motion errors, added film grain to the Hi8 footage, muted colors under a brown cast, reduced detail, and turned hard edits into three-frame dissolves. These are Monello’s account of the transfer, as reported by Gizmodo, rather than independent technical test results. The restored version is described as returning to the intended look and motion, including hard cuts. Monello believes that makes the movie scarier; that is his assessment, not a measured or universal audience response. Gizmodo’s 2024 report reproduces his announcement.
Which new U.S. edition should you choose?
Lionsgate Limited lists two separate editions for October 13, 2026. The collector’s Blu-ray is the more complete choice if you want multiple film versions and extras; the VHS is specifically for viewers who want the restored theatrical cut on tape.

The earlier Second Sight Films limited-edition Blu-ray was a UK Region B release, distinct from Lionsgate’s forthcoming U.S. Region A disc. Region B discs generally require a compatible player, so do not assume the Second Sight edition will work in every player. Second Sight now labels that limited edition out of print. Its release was also reported to include 90 minutes of deleted footage, a bonus-feature duration—not a runtime for the film or a measure of the restoration. Second Sight’s listing identifies the edition and its out-of-print status.
