What “The Third Encore” reportedly meant
In a September 23, 2021 list, Brian McGovern of Ranker says the Eagles called their aftershow gatherings “The Third Encore.” Rather than another performance, the phrase referred to parties after the show, reportedly held in a large hotel suite. Ranker also points to a 1979 Rolling Stone article describing attendees at one of the parties.
The cited Rolling Stone story was not directly accessible for this account, so its details should be attributed to Ranker rather than presented as independently checked reporting. Ranker’s page is the source for the party description here: “Absolutely Insane Stories From The Heyday Of The Eagles”.
How invitations reportedly worked
Ranker attributes the invitation detail to the documentary The History of the Eagles: band and crew members could give buttons to people they wanted to invite. The account describes the stated rule as “No weirdos,” but does not identify who said it. It would therefore be inaccurate to assign the phrase to a specific Eagle.
