Lymphoma Action later identified the subtype as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and reported that he was back on stage by May 2025.
When did Roger O’Donnell reveal his lymphoma diagnosis?
O’Donnell said he was diagnosed in September 2023, but announced the news publicly in September 2024. In his account, he had noticed symptoms for a few months before seeking medical assessment. Lymphoma Action’s May 2025 account adds that he noticed a lump while touring, initially attributing it to the demands of the tour, and contacted his GP after returning to the UK. Lymphoma Action · The Guardian, 3 September 2024
What type of lymphoma did he have?
O’Donnell described his illness in 2024 as a “rare and aggressive” lymphoma. Lymphoma Action later named it as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, or DLBCL, a specific subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Lymphoma Action · The Guardian
What treatment did Roger O’Donnell receive?
O’Donnell said he completed 11 months of treatment. His September 2024 announcement referred to immunotherapy and radiotherapy; Lymphoma Action’s 2025 account describes a regimen involving R-CHOP chemotherapy, methotrexate, and radiotherapy. These accounts provide different levels of detail, and the sources do not name an immunotherapy drug. Lymphoma Action · The Guardian

How is Roger O’Donnell doing now?
In his September 2024 announcement, O’Donnell said, “I’m fine and the prognosis is amazing.” That was his description at the time, not an independently verified prognosis or a current health update. Lymphoma Action reported that he was back on stage with The Cure by the time its account was published on 2 May 2025. The sources cited here do not establish his health status after that date. The Guardian · Lymphoma Action
What did he say about getting checked?
O’Donnell used the announcement to encourage people who are concerned about possible symptoms to seek medical assessment. He wrote, “if you have the faintest thought you may have symptoms go and get checked out.” This was a personal appeal, not a claim that there is a universal screening test for lymphoma or a substitute for medical advice. He also urged people to support those who are ill: “If you know someone who is ill or suffering talk to them, every single word helps, believe me I know.” The Guardian
