Steve Urkel: Jaleel White
White’s portrayal of the bespectacled, suspenders-wearing neighbor became the show’s most recognizable performance. He continued with acting and voice roles after the sitcom. One clearly dated milestone is his 2024 memoir, Growing Up Urkel, which reflects on the character and the experience of growing up in the public eye. The Winslow parents: Reginald VelJohnson and Jo Marie Payton
Reginald VelJohnson as Carl Winslow
VelJohnson played family patriarch Carl throughout the series’ nine seasons. His later television work included Turner & Hooch and Dancing with the Stars, credits cited by Us Weekly in 2024. Those are examples of work after Family Matters, not evidence that either is a current engagement.
Jo Marie Payton as Harriette Winslow
Payton played Harriette until leaving before the finale; another performer took over the role for the remaining episodes. In a September 2017 interview with Entertainment Weekly, as quoted by Us Weekly, Payton explained that she had decided to leave two years earlier: “I actually made the decision to leave the show two years before I left. I was unhappy about a lot of things. I was going through a divorce, I wasn’t happy on the show — it didn’t mean I did not want to perform as an actress or an artist.”

Her later voice work includes Suga Mama in The Proud Family. In June 2026, Disney announced Payton among the cast of the fourth and final season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Disney’s season announcement is the dated confirmation of that voice role.
The Winslow children: Kellie Shanygne Williams and Darius McCrary
Kellie Shanygne Williams as Laura Winslow
Williams played Laura, one of the Winslows’ children. A 2024 Us Weekly retrospective notes intermittent later film and television work, including the 2020 film Christmas in Carolina. A separate 2026 retrospective reports that Williams and former co-star Telma Hopkins began co-hosting a Family Matters rewatch podcast in late 2025. That podcast detail is reported by secondary coverage rather than confirmed here through an official feed.

Darius McCrary as Eddie Winslow
McCrary played Eddie, the Winslows’ son. Us Weekly’s 2024 retrospective lists later work including the soap opera The Young and the Restless and the series Monogamy. These selected credits establish later screen work, not his present-day activity.
The Crawford family and Judy Winslow
Telma Hopkins as Rachel Crawford
Hopkins played Rachel, a relative who became part of the Winslow household. Her later screen credits included The Young and the Restless, according to Us Weekly’s 2024 profile. As noted above, a 2026 retrospective also reported her rewatch podcast with Williams.

Jaimee Foxworth as Judy Winslow
Foxworth played the youngest Winslow child during the first four seasons. Judy later vanished from the sitcom without an on-screen explanation. That is a feature of the show’s story, not an explanation of Foxworth’s life or present-day career.

What about the rest of the cast?
Family Matters had a larger ensemble than the familiar Winslow family and Urkel. Disney’s catalog listing names Rosetta LeNoire among the cast, while a 2019 REVOLT retrospective identifies Shawn Harrison and other supporting performers. The available dated career summaries do not establish current updates for every supporting actor, so it would be misleading to imply a complete cast-by-cast status report.
