Those are three different kinds of recognition—not a single measure of artistic quality. This guide brings together records highlighted by editorial selection, chart performance and the Latin GRAMMYs, with attention to the musical ideas and regional traditions that make them worth exploring.
How to read this guide
“Latin albums” covers a wide range of languages, regions and musical traditions. No single list can represent every scene, and the selections below are not a claim to do so. Billboard en Español’s staff chose 25 albums for its 2025 list; the Latin Recording Academy’s Album of the Year nominees provide another useful cross-genre lens. Chart position adds evidence of audience activity, while awards and editorial rankings reflect their own selection processes.

The dates matter. Billboard’s year-end Top Latin Albums chart covered October 26, 2024 through October 18, 2025, rather than the calendar year. The 2025 Latin GRAMMY eligibility period ran from June 1, 2024 through May 31, 2025. A release described here as a 2025 standout was not necessarily eligible for both.
Standout Latin albums to hear
Bad Bunny — DeBÍ TiRAR Más FOToS
This album connects contemporary reggaetón and Latin trap with Puerto Rican musical memory. Billboard’s editorial account describes references to salsa, plena, bolero and perreo, framing the record as a personal tribute to Puerto Rico. “Nuevayol,” for example, recalls El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico’s 1975 salsa hit “Un verano en Nueva York.” That exchange between present-day urbano and older musical touchstones gives the album a sense of place beyond its streaming-era sound.

- ROMANCES was the third installment of Luis Miguel's classic Boleros releases. At the time of its release, ROMANCES had broken the record by debuting at #14 in the Top 100 Billboard Soundscan charts and of course #1 on the Latin Album Charts. No other Latin album had debuted so high before. This album maintained its #1 Latin album status for months to come and it delivered yet many more major hits by Luis Miguel including "Por Debajo De La Mesa", "El Reloj", "La Gloria Eres Tu" and much more. Now it will be available on vinyl format with two LP's.
Its standing is supported by distinct measures: Billboard en Español placed it first in its 25-album staff selection; Billboard’s year-end Top Latin Albums report also ranked it No. 1; and it won the Latin GRAMMY for Album of the Year. Billboard reported that it debuted atop the weekly Top Latin Albums chart dated January 18, 2025, and held the top spot for all but three weeks in the chart’s stated year-end tracking period. The Latin GRAMMY result followed a separate eligibility window and Academy voting process.
Rauw Alejandro — Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0
Do not confuse this 2025 follow-up with Rauw Alejandro’s original Cosa Nuestra, released in 2024. Billboard describes Capítulo 0 as a Caribbean-focused prequel that brings bomba, plena, bachata and salsa into the orbit of his familiar perreo and R&B. It debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts in October, according to Billboard’s account.

The 2024 Cosa Nuestra received a different set of 2025 recognition: it was a Latin GRAMMY Album of the Year nominee and appeared among the contenders for Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Album of the Year. These honors should not be read as chart rankings for Capítulo 0.
Karol G — Tropicoqueta
Billboard’s description presents Tropicoqueta as a deliberately wide-ranging set, moving among vallenato, dembow, reggaetón, ranchera, Brazilian funk, bachata and cumbia villera. The shifts make it a useful choice for listeners interested in an album that treats genre as a palette rather than a boundary. Billboard reported that it debuted at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Fuerza Regida — 111XPANTIA
For a regional Mexican direction that experiments with its textures, Billboard points to 111XPANTIA and its use of synth sounds and banjo riffs. Billboard reported at the time of its article that the album reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on regional Mexican charts, describing it as the highest-charting Spanish-language album by a duo or group in Billboard history at that point. That record claim belongs to the publication’s reporting context, not a timeless ranking.
More Album of the Year nominees to explore
The Latin Recording Academy’s 2025 Album of the Year field demonstrates how far the category ranges beyond any one genre or market. In addition to Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro, the nominees included CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso’s PAPOTA, Natalia Lafourcade’s Cancionera, Carín León’s Palabra de To’s – Seca, Liniker’s CAJU, Alejandro Sanz’s ¿Y Ahora Qué?, and albums by Gloria Estefan, Vicente García, Joaquina and Elena Rose. Nomination is institutional recognition, not a substitute for a listener’s own judgment about what belongs on a personal best-of list.

Billboard’s 2025 Latin Music Awards add another, narrower signal: Bad Bunny’s album was named Latin Rhythm Album of the Year, while Rauw Alejandro’s Cosa Nuestra appeared among the contenders. That genre-specific award result is separate from both Billboard’s year-end chart and the Latin GRAMMY Album of the Year process.
